    auto focus/zoom

Zooming is always manual and has nothing to do with focusing. Zoom manually to compose your shot. If your are in AF mode half press the shutter to re-focus and take the shot. If you are in manual "M" on the lens, turn the focus ring until the shot is in focus and take the picture. Different...

cheap chinese extension macro tubes from ebay- $6

I think they're pretty good and work well in conjunction with my 55mm 2.8 and home made diffuser for the onboard flash. Here's one shot using that set up on my D3200, I don't remember how many tubes I had stacked unfortunately. The main difficulty I've found with them is the loss of light...

@mikew what software do you use? I'm looking at PhotoDirector6 as I can get an upgrade apparently for £34.99. I believe it is somewhat comparable to Lightroom but I've not used either.

Badgers? We don't need no stinking badgers!

I found a badger set last week. After two unsuccessful trips out with the D3200 and not a single photo taken, I decided to take my new camera out for its first proper outing. I now knew where the badgers came out and set up, with my wife by my side, in a good position with a clear view and a...

    IT's HERE!!!

After what seems like an age my D7100 has arrived! Now if the battery would just hurry up and charge so I can take some pictures! Very very excited to explore what this camera can do! My only complaint so far, having not used the camera, is with the delivery service. I ordered from HDEW...

    Macro Ringlight

I was in the same position as you @hsiehjon a couple of weeks ago, looking at getting flash rings etc. but for the time being have gone down the home made diffuser and on board flash route. I still have lots of learning to do and I will try some other designs out as I when I get suitable...

Post your Frogs, Toads and Amphibians!

Went back to the same spot and came across this pair of toads mating. Don't think they were too happy about me taking their picture.

    Post your spiders

My first ever jumping spiders shots. The little guy/gal didn't want to stay still and as they do, jumped off out of sight before I could get many shots. As a first attempt though I'm happy with these. If I find any more I'll try out the extension tubes so I don't have to crop so much.

    Red line issue

I have a similar issue with my D3200. Once I upload RAW files to PhotoDirector3 they get a pink bar downthe right hand side. Here's an example.

    Anyone use PhotoDirector6?

Hi Folks, Thinking of downloading this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OE2aJp0MQGw Has anyone here got any experience of using PhotoDirector software? And if so how does it compare to Adobe Lightroom in terms of features and usability? I have a limited version PhotoDirector3 which came...

    Gorillapod SLR Zoom for macro?

Gorilla pod came in handy today, couldn't have got decent shots of this toad without it, or without getting myself soaking wet. Excuse the crappy mobile phone photo.

Post your Frogs, Toads and Amphibians!

These live in my father in laws pond, not sure how they got there as it's quite an urban area. I used to work on Greenham Common in Berkshire, had a pond there that was teaming with all three species. This pic was taken when we did a newt survey (and before I took up photography). Incredible...

    Post your macro photos here

Here's my favourite Toad shot I took today. Needed to use my new Joby SLR Zoom tripod for the first time as he was in shallow water I couldn't kneel or lie in. Also the first time I've ever felt the need for an articulated screen. Will post a couple of other shots in the amphibian thread.
