Juvenile moorhen. Can be easily mistaken for a young coot. I got dozens of shots of this little guy as he was living on a patch of water-lilies next to the boat I was staying on.
Spot the Heron.
With an 8 ft wingspan it shouldn't be too hard to see, especially when it's in the middle of the photograph. However, its horizontal takeoff was just too horizontal.
This guy seemed to have an issue with everyone and everything around him.
Downside to the week was finding some young kids who found a seagull choking to death. I even tried mouth-to-mouth to revive it but to no avail. Kids were devastated and wanted to give it a decent burial. Future...
Got back earlier this week from what should have been a 2-week working holiday in a nature park (a seized up engine caused my recall). Still had time to take masses of shots of the wildlife. Here is a gorgeous little fellow who makes his family stand out (and gets them fed).
We've recently experienced the worst heatwave in Eastern France since 2003 with temps up to 40°C/104°F. I found this young House Martin suffering from the heat and took him indoors for an hour. He then flew happily away.
Synaema globosum - Napoleon crab spider - so-called because the black marking on its back resembles a bust of the emperor. It exists in various colours.

"A Wee Teuchter With Attitude"
We don't see many Highland Cattle here in France so it was nice to find this little guy. I use the term 'teuchter", a Scots term for a highlander, as a term of endearment and not as an insult. ;)
A real softy. I am not a dog-person but, although this lass looks viscious, she is the complete opposite. She just wants to be loved and cuddled. She belongs to a friend and happily lives with a beautiful cat.
