    XMP files and Lightroom questions

Xmp files??? How are they used? I just want to make sure I am understanding xmp files in Lightroom. I can safely delete the xmp files, right? And then have Lightroom make new ones? Here's the longer story if you are wondering why I ask... My computer died the other day. I have a simple backup...

    Buy Lightroom?

Do you have a student or teacher in your life? If so, get the teacher/student edition. Or set up a camelcamelcamel.com account (thank you @hark for the tip) and wait to be notified for a good price drop on Amazon. It happens, brief and steep.

Nikon D3200 Issue with External Flash

I'm not familiar with that flash, but I'll guess here. I think the 560 does not do TTL flash and the camera won't know its there. I'll further guess that you are in auto mode so the onboard flash will try to pop up as needed. Try S, A, or M and it should work. I'm looking at a chart on @WayneF...

Verizon’s FiOS Now Matches Download & Upload Speeds

@Eduard , Was there anything specific to click on or any confirmation that you got the upgrade besides the actual result? I followed the links yesterday to see if I was eligible. It guided me into joining Rewards+. Once I joined and entered the rewards screens, there was no further mention of...

    Slow picture loading

@jdeg Me Too! I miss the New Posts box already. The reason being, as I surf around Nikonites reading whatever might interest me, the new threads and new posts boxes are always there on my right. If something catches my eye, I'll check it out. I'm usually supposed to be doing something else and I...

    Post your Insect shots

The yard was full of little bits of fluff in the air today. My first thought was that I had better clean the dryer vent. After struggling to grab one, I realized they were alive. I've never seen these before. I looked it up and it appears to be a Woolly Aphid.

    Let the grilling begin

Extra crispy please. Note to self..... put foil under the chicken if you're closing the lid and not paying attention. We have the little weber grill too. I love it for when its just me and my wife. You can't beat the larger grill though for chicken cremation.:grief:

    Newbie to lightroom help please!

I am no expert, but I'm curious what the more experienced guys here say. This is what I did: Exposure -.5 Contrast +7 Highlights -33 Clarity +60 Sharpness +70 Masking 80 Luminance 70 Also, I would straighten it a hair and fix that spot on the roof between the two columns on the right. You...

    Panning...

If you have an external flash, you should have enough power to get the blurred flash effect in daylight. The onboard might work too if the subject is pretty close. You want some daylight to contribute to the exposure. The daylight gives the blur and the flash gives a freeze frame. Here is a...

    Panning...

Ok, I poked my head outside and tried my own advice. 40mph cars on road about 100 yards away. I had to go slower than I predicted, but I think that will vary quite a bit depending on distance and focal length and pan speed. 300mm at 1/200 , 1/160, and 1/100 for these shots.

Reverse Mounting Your Prime Lenses for Affordable Macro Photography

You should have plenty of pixels to crop your shots a bit and to give a closer look. What was your was your f-stop on these shots? I would go up to maybe f16 to get more in focus. You will likely need flash for that. Try shooting manual with flash, iso 100, 1/200 sec, f16 and get as close as you...

Reverse Mounting Your Prime Lenses for Affordable Macro Photography

I tried my old filters on my 35mm lens. This is the 10x from a few inches away and some crops of the same shot. You might not get to crop as much on the d3100 files.

SanDisk 32 GB SDHC Extreme Pro 95mb/s PRICE DROP

I just saw that the price has dropped on SanDisk 32 GB SDHC Extreme Pro 95mb/s card to the $50 range in case anybody has been thinking about getting one. Looks like Amazon, b&h and Adorama have all dropped the price. Maybe the new faster one is about to come out. Of course I paid $58 two days...

    Server move!

@Marcel , do you have a router and/or modem? A few years back I could not connect to home depot for 2 days. I thought that very odd for a major website. It was the only site I was having trouble with. I reset router and modem and it worked fine.

    drip

Ok, really bored today and I tried a very quick water drip shot. Nothing fancy, bowl in the sink under the faucet, colored plastic over the flash. It took 70 clicks to get 2 that were even close. I was in a rush, my wife did a quick run to the corner store. I really didn't want to explain to her...

strange yellow tint on the camera playback - help please

I have been curious about this recently so I did some quick test shots. I used 1/30, 1/60, 1/200, and 1/400 shutter speed. I used auto white balance, but I did one additional set with white balance manually set to fluorescent. No difference that I could see between manually setting white...
