I'm still mad that they took my Kodachrome away.

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets 2026

Finally made it out to Magnolia this weekend. I've been making do with backyard photography while my wife heals from her fall and surgery back in June. At first I thought it was going to be a bust. Only one duck in the swamp, and all the nesting birds have flown the coop. Went down to the large...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets 2026

Here's another of those surprising tag a longs. I had no idea it was there until I started editing the images I took this morning. I like the pose of the bird on the first one, but the spider looks a little strange due to the angle. the second has a much better angle on the spider, but not so...

    my first lens

A lot depends on what you are planning on shooting. I'm primarily a wildlife photographer and if I could only have one lens, it would be my long telephoto. If I were into street photography or landscape, it would be something different. I would recommend getting a native Z mount lens. They are...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets 2026

I was set up to get some hummingbird shots, and saw this guy looking at me from the other side of the bird seed feeder. It looked really interesting, so I burned a few electrons to get it. I just wish it was not something like an ugly plastic bird feeder, but it's very unlikely that a bird would...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets 2026

I almost didn't edit the first one. It's not quite sharp. My wife was looking over my shoulder and said to go back to it. I went ahead and ran it through Topaz and it is probably sharp enough for the internet. I do like the pose. I also like the last one of the hummer on a branch. Probably...

    Post your 'ALMOST' Photos..

I've been taking a lot of images in my backyard around my feeder since my wife broke her hip last month. I would not even want to try getting in flight shots of smaller birds without pre release capture. It can be done, and I have lucked into a few in the past when I didn't have that available...

Nikon z6 with Godox IT32 with X5N trigger - TTL -HSS issue

At 100 ISO and F2.8 you should be able to achieve proper exposure out to 6.4M at full power, so I doubt that power is the culprit. Beyond making sure all your contacts are clean, and the X5n is completely seated on the camera, I've got nothing. Have you tried it both wireless and mounted on...

Nikon z6 with Godox IT32 with X5N trigger - TTL -HSS issue

Keep in mind that HSS reduces the effective power of your flash. It uses small pulses of flash to overcome the rolling nature of sensor reading. I don't know the physics behind why this reduces effective flash power, but it is something that is said in articles about HSS, and something I have...

Hello from Prince Edward Island, Canada/Z6II and cannot get the sub selector to move my focus point.

Do you have the focus area set to auto? From the online manual: "The sub-selector can be used to choose the focus point when an option other than [Auto-area AF], [Auto-area AF (people)], and [Auto-area AF (animals)] is selected for AF-area mode (AF-Area Mode)."

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets 2026

I'm getting a little tired of only backyard photography, but I'm doing my best to make the most of it. I should be able to get back out to some of my usual haunts in the next couple weeks. Unfortunately, my wildflower plot has not been very productive this year either. Likely due to a very hot...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets 2026

Was using pre-release capture to try and get some in flight shots of songbirds in the backyard. Didn't notice what was in the cardinal's beak until I brought the image up on the computer. The finch looks like he wants some of that bug, although I understand they don't often eat insects.

Capacity of a Lexar Silver 256gb CFexpress B memory card in my D850

I believe that is how it's set up on my Z8, and should be the same for the D850. I would recommend clearing your cards and then shoot a few images and check each card and make sure all your NEF files go to the CF Express and all the JPGs go to the SD. You can use your current SD until you get a...

Capacity of a Lexar Silver 256gb CFexpress B memory card in my D850

I use the same setting BF suggested in my Z8. Raw files go to the CF express card, and I have a 256 GB SD card (relatively inexpensive) set to jpg. I can shoot for months without transferring or erasing the jpg files on the SD card. It's nice to have a RAW backup, but I can live with having a...

Sports Photography Melbourne: Tips for Capturing Fast-Paced Action

It would help to know what camera and lenses you have. Shooting sports with one of the newer mirrorless cameras, like a Z8 or Z9 is very different than an older DSLR. I don't do sports photography, but I shoot a lot of wildlife, and there are many similarities in equipment and techniques.
