    Blast from the past.

I ran across some unopened 120 T-max in a drawer earlier this year. I don't remember the exp date, but it probably was from the late 80s, perhaps early 90s. Probably still would be usable, although images wouldn't be ideal, and from what I've heard, it would need to be given a couple stops of...

    CAMERAS USED ON FLICKER

I have noticed that among our nature photography group, Canon seems to be heavily represented. Nikon is a smaller share than I would have thought. Of course, that is a small pool to work from.

    Wildlife advice please

I was using the original FTZ. The FTZii was out by then, but I thought I wanted the tripod screw, as I was planning on using a 70-300 that has no tripod collar, and ended up with the 200-500 instead. I wished I had gone for the FTZii, as the tripod screw portion interfered with the arca swiss...

    Wildlife advice please

I use the Z8 with the Z 180-600. I shoot mostly birds, and second BF's endorsement of the bird object detection in the Z8. Not to mention things like pre release capture, focus limiting and the exposure preview mirrorless affords. In my area those are the animals that are accessible unless you...

    Woody's Hermosa Luz 2026

Well the upside is that the background is more pleasing over the water, than on the ground. At least to me it is.

Tips for photographing a marine aquarium with a Nikon Z5II

I will add that the Z 105 micro lens is a very sharp lens. It may be longer than you want for shots of the entire tank, but I would think would be ideal for shots of individual small fish. I have used one for several years, primarily shooting insects, and it never fails to perform extremely well.

Tips for photographing a marine aquarium with a Nikon Z5II

Have you looked at articles and videos on aquarium photography? I could probably hazard a few suggestions, but never having attempted this type of photography, I would be guessing at best. I noticed that Youtube has a number of videos. Obviously, you have to take their advice with a grain or two...

Bring a camera... or not? If so, what kind?

heck, after decades of looking through a viewfinder, I find it challenging to work off the backscreen. The only thing I use my cell phone camera for is the rare occasion I need to quickly record something and there is no other camera available. That happens about once a year or so. I have seen...

    Woody's Hermosa Luz 2026

There are times I am hope for someone, or something to come along and spook the bird I'm sitting on so that I can get an in flight shot.

Lens caps, right side up, or doesn't matter.

From a practical point, as long as it is secure, it doesn't matter. If it makes you feel better, go for right side up. If you have to stop 4 times on the way home from a shoot to dig into your gear to double check that the cap is oriented "correctly", that is another matter. ;)

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets 2026

Sadly, no skimmers today, just hummingbirds. When ya gotta go, ya gotta go. Ever wonder why some hummingbirds have pollen on the top of their heads? Last of the string. WHY couldn't I have hung onto the shutter for another fraction of a second??????

    Nikon 200-500mm and beyond infinity.

For one thing, on a zoom lens infinity focus may change as the focal length changes. On primes it's probably a cost thing, as each lens would have to be calibrated for focus ring stop, and likely have some extra machining to allow adjustment. This normally only becomes a factor when focusing in...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets 2026

Edited another couple skimmer images. I found I really enjoyed shooting skimmers. You can see them coming and get ready. I would love to get some actually catching a fish. A lady from my nature photography club brought an image she got here last month of one with a fish, lots of spray. It was a...

Took a long lunch today, something happened.

I think you will like the internal zoom feature of this lens. I was previously using an F mount 200-500 Nikon and an FTZ adapter. It worked well, was remarkably sharp for the price point. I think the AF is a little faster with the 180-600 and it is slightly sharper. I really like not having to...

Took a long lunch today, something happened.

I got the 180-600 this last Christmas. I was looking at either this lens or the 600mm F6.3PF. I went with the zoom for the flexibility, and closer minimum focus distance. I have not regretted deciding for the zoom.

Took a long lunch today, something happened.

I've had the Z8 for over a year. I absolutely love it. I shoot mostly wildlife and macro. My Z7ii is relegated to macro work, and a backup camera. The AF and other features of the Z8 is a real game changer for a lot of wildlife shooting. There's no way I could have gotten some of the BIF shots...
