Welcome. Nature/wildlife photography is pretty popular here. Looking forward to seeing your work.

Looking for a macro flash bracket

Sorry, at this stage of my life, squatting down to insect level, bobbing back and forth to focus with a camera in one hand, and then trying to hold a flash steady in the other just isn't in the cards. I've tried it.

Looking for a macro flash bracket

I saw that they are constant lights, but being small, I'd be surprised if they don't need diffusing. My understanding is that ring flashes are good for some things, but the lighting is too flat to give the directional look you often want for a pleasing image. Plus, they are rather pricey. I...

Looking for a macro flash bracket

Those look interesting, but I'm sure they are going to provide rather harsh light without diffusion. Not sure how you would go about getting decent diffusion, unless you were in a studio situation. I've been very happy with my flash for macro, but would like to be able to easily change the...

Looking for a macro flash bracket

I would like to get a flash bracket that will give me more positioning options when shooting macro. I would love an articulating design, but the well made ones seem to be extremely expensive for what they are at $200 and up. I found this one at B&H for $30. It doesn't look like a super solid...

    Z7ii on sale now

The only thing I could trade in is my D3400 with kit lenses. Maybe a couple hundred bucks.

    Z7ii on sale now

Rather than start a new thread, I'll ask the question here. Would moving up from the Z5 to the Z7ii be enough of an upgrade to justify spending more money than I am comfortable spending right now? I had a hard time parting with less than half this amount a couple months ago to get the 105 micro...

Dang, Peter, you are knocking them out of the park this week.

    Post your fog shots

I'm having trouble deciding which of the last two I like best. I lean toward the first, but I really like the fence extending into the water on the second. I suppose the second is a more "pure" image. Both are wall hangers. Funny, in old tool circles I use that term to denote something that...

Dumb Jokes Posted Here.... if you dare.

Good one. At least it's not cat abuse.

    Z7ii on sale now

They're knocking $700 off the regular price. $2300 If I hadn't just dropped a grand on the 105mm micro, I might be leveraging adding some of my money to Christmas presents to get this.

    Nikkor Z 28mm 2.8

What about a 24-70? If you can afford it, the F2.8 version is supposed to be top notch. I have the F4 and find it to be an excellent performing lens. While I'm sure the extra speed of the F2.8 would be a plus in many situations, I'm sure you could deal with the extra stop of light required with...

    Photo Organization

I just create a subfolder based on the location and date for each shoot. Maybe not the best solution, and sometimes I have to search a little to find a specific image, but for now it works for me. I generally have a good idea of when and where I shot something. The biggest issue is when I have...

I completely understand. Thanks for the thought.

Automatic Exposure Bracketing on the D3100?

The easiest way, IMO, is to use manual then run either the shutter speed, or the Fstop up and down. Alternately, you could use the exposure compensation button to add and subtract exposure regardless of what exposure mode you are in. If you are asking how much to bracket, that is up to you and...

Post your low light long exposures

One of the fondest memories I have of my father was when I was in my early teens. He had Thursdays off and one day he decided it would be more educational for us to drive down from Daytona to the Cape and watch one of the launches. We were just across the river from the launch pad. He took some...

    hark 2023

We have a raptor rescue center in our area. They give demonstrations with their "ambassador birds". It gives a great opportunity for photographing these beautiful animals. While they do have tethers and radio locators on them, you can get close up pictures of them that would be extremely...

Why didn't I start using this earlier?

Well, even if I couldn't remember which was which, looking through the viewfinder, or the back display, a glance at a key element would tell me which was which. Since there are only 3 on my Z5, I have no trouble keeping them straight in my mind.
