Working with a long exposure image

I worked on smoothing out the horizon to the left of the tree. Photoshop remove does such a better job than LR does.

Working with a long exposure image

With this site, planning is required. You not only have to look at the high tide times, you have to look at how high the tide will be. We thought we had it all figured out, and earlier this year we got up at 4AM and drove down there, only to find that the tide was still too high to even get on...

Working with a long exposure image

Don't know if this would be better in the evaluation section, but since I hope to get a discussion and some back and forth, I will post it here. I impulsively posted this image in the weekly challenge before I had thought the editing through. I would like to briefly go through the shooting and...

    Extremely small scale macro photography

Be aware that the bellows posted has no electronic connections. That means that if you are using a lens without an aperture ring, like the ones you mentioned in your post, you will have to jump through hoops to change the aperture. I have a D3400 with the 18-55 kit lens, and tried several...

    Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS

No, it was a 15 sec exposure. I tried some longer exposures and was getting elliptical stars.

    Extremely small scale macro photography

Another issue is that at extremely high magnification, depth of field becomes razor thin. Even with small apertures, it is going to be challenging. If you don't go the bellows route a focusing rail may help. If image quality is a priority, I would look at a prime lens vs a zoom kit lens. Also...

    Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS

If I go out to the beach here in July, I'd have to bring a baseball bat to keep the mosquitoes and gnats from making off with my gear. Seriously, I found the exercise interesting, but I think I'll stick with macro and birds. If I didn't have to drive an hour to the beach and then hike a mile or...

    Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS

No. I was pretty busy slapping the gnats, helping my daughter, and trying to figure out the basics to do an HDR. I should have. Is that what would have given me a clear image of the milky way?

    Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS

Well, I just got back from the milky way outing with the CNPA. I was rather disappointed with the milky way I got. Not terribly obvious. I think I got the comet, though. I was using a 24mm focal length so it's not terribly large. Look in the lower right hand section.

Well, it's not called "people on the street" photography.

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

The Pup and I got up early and headed up the road to Swan Lake. Didn't do as well as when we went in the spring. Here's a few.

    Autofocus area question

I got mine from my dad. When I was a kid, I liked to go watch him develop film and prints in the darkroom he had set up in his shop. After I got married, I got the bug and set up my own darkroom. Now my daughter and I go on photo outings.

    Autofocus area question

I guess I'm too old school. I started off with a Argus C4, rangefinder camera. Not that I want to go back to the manual everything, film days.

    Autofocus area question

Well, I went out back this afternoon and set up my camera bag as a target and tried several different modes. I think I may need to switch to continuous mode more often. It seems to work well enough on absolutely stationary subjects.

My D3400 looks dark and takes dark pictures with 300mm lens

Do you have access to another Nikon camera to try this lens out on?
