Where do you draw the line with editing?

Before this thread goes any further, let say that this is not intended to criticize anyone's editing choices, but rather to spark thought on what we do and how we do it. Let's keep thing civil and respectful, and perhaps learn from each other's choices and opinions.

Where do you draw the line with editing?

This has come up, mostly as a tangential issue, often enough that I thought a separate discussion on it might be a good thing. Everyone has an opinion on where to draw the line, although some may not have given it that much thought. With the rise of AI generated images, and software tools that...

Thinking about a camera harness system

Well, I ended up getting a single camera Cotton Carrier harness for my birthday. It was ordered late and came in a few days after, and as an unexpected gift from the convention the Pup and I went to, we all have covid right now. I mounted the plate on my long lens collar foot and...

    New here from Romania.

This will show you a little of what Lightroom can do. This is an image I took recently. If memory serves me, I used highlight weighted metering to help preserve highlight detail because of the difficult lighting situation. The subject ended up badly underexposed. Low exposure levels are the real...

Most of us long for the newest, latest, greatest gear. I'm certainly guilty of it myself. I have also made some poor purchases when I saw something shiny in the window that I thought would make my photography great. Don't misunderstand me, I have be fortunate enough to be able to afford some...

My daughter has a Z50ii, and IMO, it is an excellent camera. It does not have IBIS, but all the Z DX lenses have it incorporated in the lens. I recommended the Z6iii without knowing your budget. IMO, if you are not editing your photos in post, you are missing out on a lot in your photography...

I have no experience with the Z6 line. Looking at the specs on it, the Z6 has a 24MP BSI vs the Z6iii which has a semi stacked. From what I read, the BSI sensor should have an edge over semi stacked in low light performance. This would be a plus for your stated needs. The down side is autofocus...

    Viltrox 20mm F2.8 Z mount - Review

I particularly like the seascape. Since you stopped down to F9, I wouldn't be surprised if the sharpness is close to that of a Nikon lens. I had a hard time finding a Viltrox 28mm F2.8 Z mount online to see the specs. I gave up and just looked at the 20mm instead. ;)

I understand that spending that kind of money is not in everyone's situation. Before you spend your available money on new equipment, I would advise maximizing your processes and techniques. If you have access to de-noise software, try it out. There are free options available online, I have no...

Welcome. What about your current setup is not meeting your needs? If it is that you are having to use high ISOs, I'm afraid new equipment will do little to help with that. In general, a full frame sensor will give you better low light performance than a crop frame, but the difference isn't huge...

Close up filters for Nikon 105mm

Extension tubes instead of diopters. Extension tubes have no glass elements to degrade your image. They are cheaper as well. The only down side is that you will need longer tubes for 105 than for say a 50mm lens in order to get the same amount of magnification. You will lose a little bit of...

Here is the link to the 2026 winners. The page has low resolution versions on the page, click on it and higher resolution image pop up. I believe you can access it without being logged in as a member. FYI, tier 1 is for professionals, and those who have won 1st place in a category or higher, or...

    Woody's Hermosa Luz 2026

I like that you took a common bird, that most of us ignore when out shooting unless it for tracking practice, and do a great job of making the image look special.

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets 2026

Things were a little crowded people wise at Cypress Gardens today. I forgot it was a holiday when I decided to drive over there. That kept the wood ducks further back up in the more wooded sections of the swamp. A pair did come out a little before it closed. Managed to grab a few.

    Woody's Hermosa Luz 2026

Beautiful work, as always. I'm just glad you aren't a member of the CNPA. I would never win anything in the Member's Choice contests.

Gap behind memory card cover door

I looked at pictures of the D610 online. Not many showed the card cover door clearly, but the few that did had what appeared to be the same gap. Maybe someone who owns a D610 will chime in.

    Mirrorless in 2026, maybe!

I try and be very careful to keep the camera pointed down when changing lenses. I also try not to change them in the field, if I can help it. I had to clean my Z5 and Z7ii many times. Often, just a few puffs from a squeeze blower would do the trick, but all too often I had to get out the swabs...
