    Post your award winning photos

Well, the Pup and I went to the North Charleston Arts Festival tonight after submitting several images each. Unfortunately, the Pup didn't win any, but had a lot of nice things said about her photos, and she sold one almost right off the bat. The competition this year was much stiffer than last...

    FX - DX confusion

Yes, this is how the engineers designed the system. It will not let you override DX mode with a DX lens mounted. I think this being the default setting when a DX lens is mounted is sound design, but the user should be able to override to FX mode, and use it at your own risk.

    FX - DX confusion

Another issue is that a lot of Nikon FX cameras will not let you use the entire sensor when a DX lens is mounted. I would like to try the Pup's 10-20 DX lens on my Z7ii or Z8 in full frame mode, but it won't let me. I know that I would get vignetting, but that might be a plus for some images. At...

Weekly Photo Challenge - Rules and Guidelines

I believe one of the purposes of the weekly, and monthly challenges is to encourage folks to go out and take photos within certain guidelines. This is often used as a technique in a teaching environment to get people to work outside their comfort zone. This can often help us to try new things...

    Slide to Digital Images

I cannot easily find the holder I made to post a picture. I did find something somewhat similar on the internet. Link below. It has both a negative and a separate slide holder. This holder uses a tube that slides over the smooth barrel of a point and shoot digital. I used a lens hood and cut a...

    Slide to Digital Images

Here's a thread where I made a slide holder out of foamcore and a lens hood. I mounted it on my Z105 micro and used a hand held flash to provide light. I diffused the light with several things. IIRC, setting up white paper or foam core and using the flash to illuminate it worked fine. Slide...

Where do you draw the line with editing?

Here is another one that exemplifies the conundrum we often face when making decisions about how far to go to get the shot the way we want it. This is an image I shot this weekend at Swan Lake. I love the detail in the female mallard and especially like the reflection of the trees on the water...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets 2026

Swan Lake with the CNPA today. Nothing to stop the Nat Geo presses for, but a few solid shots. I was hoping to get some geese in flight shots today, but all I got was bird butts.

And here in sunny South Carolina, it was 94 degrees at my visit to Swan Lake in Sumter with the CNPA.

Woody, don't you get tired of taking so many top notch bird photos?

I have the harness. Not sure I would like the sling, but that is a matter of personal preference.

    Accessories...

If you find your camera/lens combo too heavy to carry around, or dangle from a neck strap, consider something like the Cotton carrier harness system. I recently purchased one, and really like it. My long lens combo runs around 6 1/2 lbs. This doesn't sound like a lot until you try carrying it...

    New Member from Arizona

I felt the same way about the EVF when I bought my first mirrorless. After a couple weeks I was completely used to it, and hated going back the the optical viewfinder of my DSLR. I really like the exposure preview you get with the electronic viewfinder. When I am shooting a difficult subject, it...

    Looking for advice

You're right. For some reason I was always under the impression it wasn't an S line, and didn't take the time to verify.

    Looking for advice

I have the 24-70 F4. It is a very good lens. The only down side is that it is a little short on the long side. For around the same price, new, you can get the 24-120 that BF mentioned. The 24-70 is an S series lens, which is Nikon's premium version. The 24-120 is not. Having said that, word on...

Another day at Cypress Garden. Mom had her babies out today. I believe this one had 10. There was another woodie female that only had two.

    F mount lens on a Z mount

Yes it does. I used my F mount 200-500 F5.6 for the better part of a year on my Z8. Object detection worked just fine.
