    Woody's Hermosa Luz 2026

One thing I learned from years of SCUBA diving the rivers here in South Carolina, when the gators start getting friendly, it's time to get out of the water.

When you are writing a post look directly beneath and there is a box that says "Attach Files". Just click on that and a "file upload" box will appear. Choose the file(s) from your computer and click "open". A thumbnail will appear with "insert" in the top left corner. Click on that and "Full...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets 2026

Made it back over to Magnolia today. Still a little thin, although the nesting is definitely ramping up. The great egrets have eggs in the nests now, and the GBHs have chicks. I suppose most of the migrating birds have moved on, and the one that summer over here, mostly haven't arrived yet.

Help with choosing images for a contest

I'm adding one more to the mix. I discovered that this was taken within the 2 year window dictated by the contest rules. I think this is going to be my one monochrome entry.

Help with choosing images for a contest

Needa, it's funny, I just had this conversation with my daughter this morning. I certainly don't have winning as the over arching goal of choosing the entries. It is, however, one aspect of the equation. I certainly like all of the images posted. I lean a little more toward a couple, but there...

    Nikonbill's 2026 random photos

I don't see a lot of difference between the two on my monitor. Editing is very much personal taste. I would make a few changes if this were my image. I would add a little saturation to the sky, bring up the shadows in the right foreground, and bring down the highlights in the building to bring...

The Pup and I are heading to the CNPA convention tomorrow.

Thanks for the compliment. I'm not really discouraged by it. My comment was more in jest than any real frustration. I fully realize that I'm never going to be a top notch wildlife photographer, and am fine with that. I am happy with my work, but not complacent. I'm determined to grow and...

Help with choosing images for a contest

There's a local photo contest coming up, and I need to get some images together to print and mount for it. I'm having a little trouble making the final decisions. I can enter up to 4 images. I may or may not enter all 4. I've narrowed it down to these. I actually have some better images from the...

The Pup and I are heading to the CNPA convention tomorrow.

There are some incredibly talented nature photographers in our group. At our meeting last night there were a couple of folks attending that have been long time members, but haven't attended meetings since I've been there. We each bring 3 photos to show to the group and talk a little about. The...

    Z6III Automatic Sensor Cleaning

My Z8 has the same menu. When you choose clean at shutdown, it gives the cleaning symbol with an OFF next to it when it goes back one step in the menu. When you choose cleaning off, you get the cleaning symbol with a diagonal line through it. I found a short video on Youtube that shows it and it...

    Godox it32 with X5N trigger

My Godox 685 and my daughter's 350 both came with an adapter that was a small stand with a cold shoe for mounting the flash, and a 1/2-20 tripod mount on the bottom. You can mount the flash on it and either set it on a horizontal surface, or mount it on a tripod. Handy.

    Godox it32 with X5N trigger

I have the Godox 685 with the Xpro trigger for Nikon. The flash works very well. The trigger works quite well, also. It does, however, have a learning curve. Once you get the secret handshake down, it's fairly smooth sailing. That looks like a nice, simple system for remote flash operation...

    Problem with multi-flash

Very nice! Good to know the flash doesn't spook them.

    Problem with multi-flash

Sorry, I can't help you with your Nikon flash setup, I use a Godox for my macro work. I would be interested in your experience and images when you get this worked out. I started taking hummingbird pictures last year, and really enjoyed it. I didn't use flash. I was able to get fast enough...

    VARIABLE ND FILTERS

My daughter tried one of the variable NDs. It had lots of issues with "waves" appearing in the image from time to time. My quick research online revealed that this is a common problem with variable NDs. I purchased a 10 stop fixed ND from K&F Concepts. They are neither the most expensive, nor...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets 2026

Here is a better image of the same subject. I had two other shots that included more on either side. I made a panorama of them, although it has very little wider aspect ratio than the normal 3:2. It does give a little more margin to the turtle on the left and gator on the right. Speaking of...

Thinking about a camera harness system

My first outing today with the new Cotton Carrier. I had already adjusted everything, so it went right on without a hitch. I did forget to attach the safety strap until about 15 minutes in. Hopefully, that will become automatic. Found that the safety strap fouled on the lens foot when I pulled...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets 2026

Another slow day at Magnolia. This is my first outing since getting over covid. Haven't been out shooting in almost a month. Very heavy fog early in the morning, clearing by mid morning.
