    Needa's Dreadful Depictions!

If this is a convenient place to get to, I would suggest filming early morning. Run up and down the road when it's dry to kick up the dust, and the sun peaking through the branches will give you rays of light. Early morning fog should give a similar effect, but the dust is more easily obtained...

    Hummingbird question

What is the experience of folks here about how fast a shutter speed it requires to stop the blur of hummingbird wings? My new Z5 goes to 1/8000 and I'm wondering if that will do it? I know, the tried and true is flash. I was thinking about putting up a feeder and trying to take some photos. I...

    Magnolia Gardens, Charleston, SC

Wow, those are some great images. My daughter and I have an annual pass to Magnolia and enjoy taking pictures there. You bird pictures are spectacular. While she likes wildlife pictures a lot, she is better at what I would call "artsy" pictures. Looking at things from a different perspective...

Well, someone has to start the ball rolling.

Quick question or two about HDR

There were several pictures that I actively moved to include the moon. I wish I could have used a longer focal length on some of those to enlarge the moon, but constraints of the width of the beach, and other trees encroaching in the frame usually excluded being able to do that. In this one the...

Quick question or two about HDR

Something like this? I was looking primarily at the shadow detail in the trees and the reflections in the sand. I sometimes get carried away with the color density of sunrises. At other times I overcompensate and leave them too bland.

Pulled the trigger on a Z5 today

As posted in the HDR subsection, the Pup and I went to Boneyard Beach this morning. I was able to give the Z5 a workout. Had one issue with trying to get into self timer mode to fire the auto bracketing without a hand on the camera. My fault. I had figured out how to do it the day before, but in...

Quick question or two about HDR

OK, got back a little while ago. Had a great time. Being a Saturday, the beach was much more "crowded" than the weekdays when we were there before. Crowded as in maybe 6 or 7 people at a time on the beach. Not an issue at all, except you had to make sure you weren't in someone's shot when...

Quick question or two about HDR

Playing around with the new Z5 and I ran across the HDR feature. Clovispup and I are planning on another trip to Boneyard Beach at sunrise tomorrow, and I'm thinking this might be a great candidate for HDR. I discovered that Lightroom has HDR merging using bracketed images. The Z5 has HDR in...

Pulled the trigger on a Z5 today

Well, I got a chance to go take some pictures today. Overall I'm pleased. I really missed not having a long telephoto lens. I'm going to have to do something about that sooner rather than later. The camera handled well overall. Good ergonomics. AF was decent, but had some issues in certain...

Pulled the trigger on a Z5 today

Posted here until admin creates a Z5 subforum. It is a very similar camera to the Z6. I've been lusting after a new camera for a little while now. I would love to have a Z7, but they are a little too much $$$ right now. I decided that the Z5 was a good compromise. Full frame, most of the neat...

Great place to take bird pictures

For those of you who like to take bird pictures, but don't have the 600mm monster lens, or perhaps the desire to spend a ton of time in the field in the cold and rain, I have an idea for you. OK, some may consider this cheating, I respect that. If nothing else it will give you some nice pictures...

    Post your leaf shots.

I posted this one in my gallery, but I love the look of this shot in B&W. It reminds me of an IR shot with film.

Didn't realize I had a face until I got home and looked at the picture on the computer. Daughter saw several more in same picture.

    Mirrorless camera question

I'm starting to look down the road at upgrades. My daughter and I both are using crop sensor DSLRs. The resolution is decent IMO, but the technology is inexorably moving on. I am considering something with a good bit higher resolution. Not sure that just going to a full frame is that big a bump...

    Boneyard Beach photos

OK, I fired up the chainsaw tool in Lightroom. It looks a little better in full resolution.
