A week in with my new Zf

I have a story from 2022 about the Zfc. I had a D750 and a D7000 then and was looking to trade the D7000 for something else. Maybe something fun as I was using the D750 as the primary camera and I liked it. I had mixed feelings about the state of Nikon in general then. I actually started to...

    Filters etc

I just ordered an aftermarket aluminum hood by NiSi that has the 112mm filter thread. The Z14-24mm lens I have came without either hood. I presume that is why I got it for a bit cheaper. The aftermarket hood makes a point that the plastic Nikon version leaves gaps for light to leak through if...

    Battery Holder for EN-EL14/14a Batteries?

Two of these 6-battery holders maybe? https://www.amazon.com/EN-EL15C-NP-W235-Organizer-Water-Resistant-Shockproof/dp/B0BJ23RTF7?th=1

    FX - DX confusion

The answer is that it is 100mm for both size sensors. A DX format lens is projecting a smaller circle of light to cover a smaller sensor, but the physical size of the image is still for 100mm focal length. FX 100mm lens projects the same size image but the circle of light is larger. Micro Four...

    FX - DX confusion

Focal length is an absolute value and is not adjusted for sensor size. The answer you are looking for is no. The focal length describes the size of the image projected on the plane of the sensor or film. But the size of that sensor or film stock can range from tiny to huge. We have settled on...

    Slide to Digital Images

The 50mm might be a bit too wide with a full frame sensor. I do remember reading that it would work with a 60mm macro on a DX sensor. That equals 90mm lens on full-frame. But I was researching to use with a D750 and a Tamron 90mm back then. Really the ES-2 is a plastic holder that attaches to...

It would be expensive, but your Z7 is the best tool. Expensive in that you will need a good macro lens like the Z MC 105mm f/2.8 plus a film/slide scanning adapter. You will take a photo of each slide or negative focused at macro distance with much higher resolution than those cheap...

BF Hammer 2026: Me and my Zf

Several weeks ago I had dug out my 45 year old Reflex NIKKOR C 500mm f/8 lens and disassembled it. I cleaned the mirrors and lenses with lint-free lens wipes to try to remove a film I could kind of see, and it seemed to make the photos soft and fuzzy. I did not test right away, and I did not...

Nikon 500mm f8 Mirror Reflex Lens + others

Now the test with a cheap aftermarket 2x teleconverter and focus peaking turned on. Manual focus at 1000mm handheld is pushing beyond camera and my abilities I believe. These photos have no crop applied. On the first bird the AF system did grab on to the eye of the bird and put a box on it, but...

Nikon 500mm f8 Mirror Reflex Lens + others

I bought a Reflex NIKKOR C version of the 500mm f/8 around 15 years ago. I never used it that seriously, and partly because I felt it was kind of soft and fuzzy in general. There was a while when I used a D80 that I installed a focus-assist chip (Dandelion module) that gave me the ability to...

    Accessories...

I am going to apply a decade of experience carrying around a D80 and later D7000 on geocaching hikes. PGYTECH makes some good backpacks at good value. Look around to see if that is an option in AUS. It is a Chinese brand (I often call it Piggy-Tech). I tried a silicone skin for my first D80...

    Back Button Focus

Yeah, I don't get that either. The reason for BBF with either type of camera is to set focus on a subject and maintain that focus for some time before pressing shutter release, allowing the AF-C to track and not accidentally grab another subject as you press shutter. Pretty much all wildlife...

    Back Button Focus

I know several people here do BBF. I experimented with it when I was using both a Z5 setup normally and a D750 configured with BBF. To my usual subjects, I did not see it benefiting me. And it broke my brain during the experiment. There is no real harm in trying it to see if it's right for you.

    This is so confusing...

Oh I got your joke, I simply was playing on the mention of Nikonian. But it is true that the Nikonians.com site is there, I used to use that resource, and I still get announcement emails from them at least 15 years since I last interacted there. I stopped due to it going to subscription only.
