BF Hammer 2026: Me and my Zf

Outside Brownsville, WI. Used one of my new ND filters (ND32) and perhaps should have used a ND16. Sun darkened my glasses and I had a difficult time overall seeing the composition. I may have to change to clip-on sunglasses instead of the photo-darkening lenses on my next glasses. B/W Color...

    Filter talk and creative improvising

First try with a ND32 filter. I initially tested with 1 second exposure and maybe should have dropped to ND16 instead.

This is very annoying on Z7ii

Maybe, just maybe we could start a forum for newbies to post their complaints and rants about their Nikon cameras. Just for stress relief. #Jvalenta this is not an official sponsored forum by Nikon. They have their own customer-support forum. Nobody of importance will notice this...

    Upgrade to a Z

I am curious what lens you have for your D3400? Perhaps the money spent on the FTZ adapter is better put toward a new Z mount lens. But if it's a decent full-frame lens, then there is a decision there to consider. Z5-II, Z6-III, or Z7-II are all good choices. If you think a 24MP sensor would do...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets 2026

Whoa, you went back in for more after all that injury? I would have figured the zoo won that day and gone home.

A week in with my new Zf

I bought new bling-bling for the Zf. Off with the bubble level on the hotshoe and a different soft-shutter button. Now I match. This matched brass set came from a seller on Etsy. There are a few other Nikon-specific options including different metals. But the Fuji and Leica owners have...

    Filter talk and creative improvising

Last year I wanted to take new photos of the wind turbines in southwest Wisconsin, but this time put some motion into them. I failed entirely due to it being too light out and I could not slow down exposure enough. I needed and ND filter, and the ones I had were hopelessly wrong for my current...

    Strange Redness - Z9

Just a little food for thought: Did the AI put hands on a virtual Z9 and do some manual focusing to get an answer, or did the Artificial Idiocy simply copy it's homework from my quick response here. We may never know. Alternately, before turning off the peaking again you could have tested my...

    Strange Redness - Z9

I'm guessing focus peaking. If you are touching the manual focus ring (manual override), focus peaking activates to highlight what part of the image is in focus. Touching the shutter then reactivated autofocus and the peaking then was removed from display. This behavior can be disabled in the...

Unfair expectations of Tamron 24-70 lens, or issue?

I once had that 35mm f/1.8 lens. It's not that outstanding. Probably in the same class as the Tamron SP 24-70 f/2.8 Di

BF Hammer 2026: Me and my Zf

And don't forget you loose the ability to focus to infinity with an extension tube. Just consider each added optical element between camera and lens to be degrading your photo to some degree. The extension tube not a problem, but you are trading some quality for reach when you go to a...

Unfair expectations of Tamron 24-70 lens, or issue?

Kind of agreeing with Clovis here. On the 2nd batch, 1/40 sec is too slow really to judge. You have motion blur on those. I asked the focus point on the first batch because the composition kind of shifted. If you were centered, the center did shift and focus different. I actually believe you...

Unfair expectations of Tamron 24-70 lens, or issue?

I have to ask where you set focus on? The only sharp area on the Nikon 35mm I see is the extreme right inside the garage door. I think the Tamron is focused on the white bags in front of the hay bales. I have no idea of what you intended to focus on.

Post your favorite April 2026 shot

Had more to choose from than I remembered. But I think I am a bit proud of hand-holding and manual focusing on this chickadee. Image stabilization is that good on the new Zf.

BF Hammer 2026: Me and my Zf

Tough question to answer. You will only really know if somebody reports trying, or you go for it and try yourself. Long ago I did have a Tamron 1.4x converter that had AF screw coupling and CPU pins. It worked without issue on a pair of D80 camera bodies, then failed with an error code...

BF Hammer 2026: Me and my Zf

When the third of my 3 brothers died early in 2022 he had some Nikon film gear. His darkroom stuff was all ruined in a basement flood. Cameras were kept safe but had issues. He had a non-descript off-brand 2x F-mount teleconverter. No autofocus or CPU pins. Kind of limited use to me. I did...

    Post your Train shots!

That had been an off-topic discussion on another forum I visit. On June 2nd #4014 will making a stop just about 105 miles from home. A possible day trip if taking another day off work this year isn't a problem. I do have some photos of #4017 preserved at a railroad museum in Green Bay. That was...

BF Hammer 2026: Me and my Zf

Some shots I took during lunchtime but could not edit and perhaps enter into the "Parks" weekly challenge in time. I used a Fuji Provia color profile on the first photo, B/W shots are my own red filter custom profile.
