    Moab Man's Magnified Macro

My bug pursuit was a failure. Too few bugs and the one I did see was too quick. Instead I have a shot from seemingly another world.

    Moab Man's Magnified Macro

This little flower is about half the width and three quarters the length of an average mans pinky finger nail. Shot on a D600, Tamron 90mm Macro with Raynox DCR-250, f/64, ISO 320, off camera flash, 1/100. The shot is tripod mounted and painstakingly focused in to see exactly how good I can...

    Moab Man's Magnified Macro

@mikew For a long time I have loved to shoot macro, but I wanted more. A macro lens is great, but I really wanted more than just a 1:1 ratio. There are screw on magnifiers and they can provide mixed results. Often times the optic quality is just not up to par. Having looked at some of @Scott...

Which would be best for close up work

@mikew I just picked up a Raynox 250. This weekend I will be trying it out on both my D7100 and D600. I will share with you my thoughts at the end of the weekend. If I forget, give me a shout.

    Moab Man 2015 Photo Collection

Went out to shoot some interesting wood structure in the water... turned out not so interesting. Headed over to a graveyard to setup a shot with the sun setting behind a cross... no cross headstones. Headed to another cemetery to find a cross... none there either. Apparently the Mormons like...

    Must stay 25 feet back...

I know here in America we have the right to photograph police and other government workers/public servants in public places. However, there are people that push this, and in my opinion, misuse the right potentially causing risk for all involved. This 25 foot buffer does not sound like a bad idea...

    B/W

Can really help to bring out the range of contrast. However, some would argue you can do it without using a red filter. My best results have been with a red, but I still need to explore further as to whether the results can be duplicated without the red filter.

    Star shot advice

Good first shot. The key to night photography is good clean sky (avoiding light pollution), the widest aperture you can come up with, and really learning and practicing editing technique. Next time you shoot, try out the 35mm f/1.8. In combination with a much wider aperture and great glass it...
