    High school color run

The festivities didn't quite go as planned. They were supposed to go down into the "bowl" and then do the powder. They didn't make it that long so I ended up capturing smaller little color skirmishes at they happened.

    High school color run

Wasn't a big turn out, but the participants had fun. Knowing how dangerous this powder can be for cameras/lenses I sprouted eyes in the back of my head and managed to keep upwind from it all. The participants were really good when they approached and I redirected them to keep them away from the...

    Need some strategy ideas.

Background The local high school has a local photographer that has kind of become the official photographer. Correction, he is more of a cornerstone brick to the school. So much so that they have even put him on their website directing people there for athletic photographs. His work is, for lack...

    Moab Man 2015 Photo Collection

Shot a softball game tonight. Love this shot. Batter wound up, lady on first ready to go, and the first baseman is hoping at a shot to get this ball about to be hit.

And I shall call him Spot, the Sun Dog

Saw my first Sun Dog today. A number of people have told me they haven't seen them this large. I had to severely underexpose to capture it as the sun was so close it would blow everything out. And now I present... Spot

    Moab Man's 2015 Area 52

Week 11 Architecture Loved the design built into the side of this building. Gave such interesting looks based on how you pointed the camera at it relative to the light hitting the different angles. With that said, here are three images.

Your thoughts on the use of the flag in this photo

If you're not American, imagine it with your own flag, but what do people think? Is this wrong? Right? Honoring? Something altogether different? Nik Dfine 2 vs Topaz Denoise 5

@Krs_2007 Let's see what Luminance does for clean up. Using the same starting images, I pushed the Luminance slider up and up to try and chase away the noise in the dark area. The main area really softened and it did not do so well at this level of clean-up in the shadow area. Kevin, when I...

Nik Dfine 2 vs Topaz Denoise 5

At Don's request, here is Nik Tools Dfine2 then sharpened with Unsharpen Mask. The fine detail was still lost and the major veins of the seedling were strengthened.

Nik Dfine 2 vs Topaz Denoise 5

Finally, one more round with Topaz. Because the Raw Moderate adjustment didn't seem to do much to the shadow ISO noise I decided to go one more time, but use the strongest noise reduction - RAW Strongest. Observation: Again, the shadow clean was not real evident, but better than the RAW...

Nik Dfine 2 vs Topaz Denoise 5

Topaz Denoise 5 Denoise offers many variances in the level of noise reduction and whether it is a jpeg or raw file. Nik tools is pretty narrow and what you get is what you get kind of sums it up. Not knowing what would be the best comparison to Nik I started out the Topaz Denoise at Raw...

Nik Dfine 2 vs Topaz Denoise 5

This next set was noise reduced using Nik Tools Dfine 2. Observations: The Nik Tools clearly cleaned up the noise the best in the shadow areas - NO COMPARISON. However, it also softened the image the most - NO COMPARISON here either.

Nik Dfine 2 vs Topaz Denoise 5

@wornish @mikew A previous thread on Noise Reduction brought up the question of different aftermarket noise clean up tools: Nik Tools Dfine and Topaz Denoise. Having both I decided to give it a try head-to-head and see the results. First set straight out of the camera - D7100, Tamron 90mm...

    Wrestling Tournament

You're welcome @Krs_2007 Your wrestling work looked great and asking you goes back to my philosophy that I teach my students, "Always (intellectually) steal something from everyone you meet, make it your own, and improve upon it. Everyone has something you can learn from them." So thank you...
