    Focus Shift Shooting With D850

Are you using "Start" in the menu, or hitting the shutter button? You must start it from the menu, not the shutter button.

    SB-26 battery leak

I bought, and briefly used a reversing ring back in my film days. It's been a long time ago, but I do remember I wasn't overly happy with the results. I ended up with a set of extension tubes. Fast forward several decades and I'm back into macro work. I briefly started with extension tubes for...

Need to know what replacement parts required

Well, there is no guarantee that there isn't other damage internally. A low mileage used D5100 goes for $165 at MPB. In my mind this would be a no brainer rather than trying to repair this much damage myself. Not to mention it may be difficult to obtain a defunct D5100. You could also use this...

    Nikon lens interchangability

If you are starting over, consider one of Nikon's mirrorless Z mount cameras. Nikon quit development of new DSLRs in favor of mirrorless a few years back. They continue to sell DSLR bodies and lenses, but they are dropping them from their line, little by little. FYI, you can still use F mount...

Thinking about writing an illustrated children's book. Thought I'd call it: Freddie the Frog Has a Bad Day And a few more from today's outing. I learned from last week's gator shot!

    Z6iii review

They are ostensibly trying to reduce electronic waste by mandating certain types of electronics all use usbc cords for charging and not including a charger with each device. Digital cameras are one of those types of electronics. In theory, every household will have one charger to rule them all...

Settings for Focus Shift Shooting - Z 105mm

I am using a Godox TT685 with an AK macro diffuser. I use the flash in manual mode and set the exposure by experience and trial and error. TTL works much of the time, but will need frequent compensation. I stick to manual as it is easier for me to control. I would suggest trying both TTL and...

    I'm a happy camper today!

I have mentioned the "club" my daughter and I joined last year, the Carolina Nature Photographer's Association. They have a baker's dozen local chapters throughout the Carolinas. Believe me when I say there is a ton of talent among these folks in the nature photography genre. Anyway, they have a...

Settings for Focus Shift Shooting - Z 105mm

Sorry, I was under the impression you had one, due to the title. My 2 cents, the Nikkor Z105 micro is an excellent macro lens, if you are using a mirrorless Nikon. It never fails to impress in sharpness and handling. If money is tight, there are other options. Extension tubes do surprising well...

    Z6iii review

I went to Nikon's website and looke up the MH25a charger that came with both my Z7ii and Z5. It states that it is compatible for the EN-EL15 and EN-EL15a batteries. It charges my EN-EL15c batteries just fine, and again, it was supplies with the camera for charging the battery. I looked at the...

Settings for Focus Shift Shooting - Z 105mm

Well, since I am taking mine manually, I don't really want to have to take a lot more than is really necessary, especially when I am taking them handheld. The other issue is that I'm frequently taking them using flash, and need to take time for the flash to recycle. Which is usually only a...

Settings for Focus Shift Shooting - Z 105mm

I played around a little with the auto focus stacking and never use it anymore. Keep in mind, I do my macro almost exclusively in the field. I assume you are going to be using it for macro work, given the lens you mentioned. I do my focus stacks manually, and mostly handheld. Yes, sometimes they...

Here's one I'm not sure about. Some of my hesitance may be that I have seen several similar shots by other photographers in the area. Let me know what you think.

Well, it's been a while since I went out on a "real photo outing". Got out to Magnolia this morning. The birds are just now starting to build nests for the busy nesting season. I discovered that I'm a little rusty. I need to get back out there and shoot more. These guys were very near the...

    HDR Enabled

Whenever I shoot HDR, I don't bother doing it in camera. I just shoot a set of bracketed shots and then do an HDR merge in editing. Of course, you have to have editing software that supports that.
