    Macro Motion Sickness

I've had a lot of trouble throughout my life with motion sickness. Guess what I did for 20 years in the Air Force? I've had issues on planes, boats and automobiles. Never had an issue with macro work. Good thing, as that is my favorite genre of photography. Sorry to hear you have that issue...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

Got this damselfly having a little afternoon snack. And another macro shot of a small butterfly.

    Anyone heard from Blue 439?

He has been a frequent poster, but haven't seen anything from him since late April. I hope everything is OK with him.

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

Got this interesting shot today. I like ladybugs. Apparently, so do dragonflies.

    Focus Shift

If you still have the separate images for the stacks, you can check the ones you already have.

    Focus Shift

My money is on the software. I sometimes have trouble with PS doing a poor job of identifying certain areas to include in the blended image. I manually make the focus stacks, rather than relying on the camera. Have you looked at the series of individual images to see if that area has an image...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

Went over to Magnolia Plantation this morning. Twisted my ankle on the way in. Had to twist on the way down to protect the camera. Seemed to work OK afterwards. Ankle should be OK in a couple days. I twist this one every couple years. The worst thing was I missed out on getting some shots of a...

For all the staff dealing with the Russian spam lately, Thank-you!

I second that. It seems like every time I bring up the website there is a sea of Cyrillic. I'm sure that ya'll have been dealing with a lot more than each of us see. Hopefully you will be able to get ahead of it. Thanks to all of you.

    Silversnapper's Happy Snaps

Works for me. I like to have info on the critters I get images of, but sometimes it's really hard to pin them down with any certainty. I have real trouble trying to distinguish between several species of warblers.

    Silversnapper's Happy Snaps

This is the kind of pictures I see when searching for golden bloomed grey longhorn beetle. Maybe the antennae are different at certain developmental stages.

    Silversnapper's Happy Snaps

Looks a lot like the beetle I posted yesterday. I believe mine is a rose chafer, a type of scarab beetle. Yours is a little different than mine, but I think it is a type of scarab beetle also. Of course, I'm certainly no entomologist, and I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

VR “broken” on Nikon 18-200 DX VR

I don't think leaving it on while shooting is the issue. It's removing the lens when the camera is on. With a lot of lenses, if you remove it from the camera when it is on, and the VR is on, if you gently shake the lens, you will hear a rattle inside. If you mount it and turn the camera off...

VR “broken” on Nikon 18-200 DX VR

I believe some VR components are much more susceptible to damage from drops and bumps. There are some delicate components that don't take kindly to bumps. Besides being careful not to drop or bump your lens, one thing you can do is to be sure and turn off your camera prior to unmounting the...

Flash vs Available Light for Insects

Here's one that is not what I usually do. I was out shooting this afternoon when a damsel fly came up. It was a bit skittish, but with care, I could approach close enough. It landed in a place I could get to it and have a decent background, but I had to gradually sneak up on it. There was no way...

    Post your macro photos here

I'll post a few here rather than swamp my 365 with macro shots. I will likely be taking a lot of macro in the next few months, and back down a little on the birds. Saw a little more variety in the offerings in the backyard this morning. Despite my resolution to shoot more available light, I...
