A front row seat to something none of us would have ever been able to watch before

The URL below takes you to the "Decorah Eagle Project" in Decorah IA. It is a 24 hour a day camera that watches a bald eagle nest. I have watched it for the last two years. The first chick should be born in about 2 weeks or so. Last year all three chick survived, which is unusual. O the largest...

Who wants to go in 50-50 with me on this lens?

This could actually go in a number of categories but I guess B&W is the best

Taken with my "old reliable" F2S and 55mm f/2.8 AIS Micro with Kodak T-MAX 100. The film got N+1 development to bring out the tones of the maple leaf better. I put the background in Zone IV, which placed the lea in Zone VI 1/2. The development bumped it up to VII 1/2. Tonality modification using...

I had forgotten about this image............

I took this last year and kind of forgot about it. I did things a little differently with this image than I had with other ultra-close-ups in the past. I still shot it in my light tent, but rather than using strobes to the sides and top like I usually do, I used my almost 40 year old Vivitar...

Ok, I have to admit this was not taken with a Nikon............

........it was taken with my Hasselblad 500CM, 80mm f/2.8 Planar and T-Max 100 film. I am on a medium format film binge right now. Digital just does not interest me in the least at this moment. It is still a great image though, at least in my opinion! Your mileage may vary. And since it is...

    Problems typing in Nikonites

Is anyone else having problems with the site dropping letters or spaces when you type? It is happening with both my laptop and desktop so I know the problem is not at my end.

    Lips

I have tried this image all three ways; all color, all black and white and spot color with just the lips. I like this version the best. It really draws the viewer' attention to her full and beautiful lips. D700, 85mm f/1.4 AIS Nikkor

    Mt Ranier Sunrise

This one goes waaaay back, 1985 in fact. I got up at 4am and hiked about a mile to the site. I kept taking meter readings with my spot meter until the sun got just high enough above the horizon to illuminate Ranier but leave the foreground in shadow. I knew the EV difference between the two was...

    Horse and Barbed Wire

I have not done any photography in months but I finally had an opportunity to go out and shoot one afternoon. I first saw an image similar to this close to 40 years ago and I always wanted to do it. I finally found the right spot! F2S and 85mm f/1.4 AIS and T-MAX 100 film

Now THIS is just plain weird!

I saw this bugger this morning when I went out to get the paper. I am surprised it was out and about, given the time of year. It was about 2 inches long. It is called a "hammerhead worm" and believe it or not this thing can grow to 20" in length!

    Smile!

It is still warm here, 68º but rainy here today, and these beautiful critters have not yet bedded down for winter. This one was not overly large, maybe 2 feet or a little bit more. I shot this one yesterday in a drainage pond. I stood on a culvert and shot it with my 180mm f/2.8 AIS. Had I had...

    In time for Halloween

I took a shot I did several months ago with the F4 and T-Max 100 and merged it with an image I took in the same cemetery at the same location (with the Hasselblad, sorry, I was out of 35mm film) of a model in a long, flowing white dress. A few tweeks in PS and voila! a beautiful spook!

    Maternity shoot

I have shot Lynnsey before in the studio but she is about 3 weeks from delivering so we had to hurry and get a maternity shoot done. Her fiancé took some coaching to get to smile but he eventually showed his pearly whites. Pregnancy suits her well! D700 and 105mm f1.8 AIS Nikkor @ f/4

    Wasp and Nest

I have been watching this wasp and two others build this nest outside our front door for about a week now. I wanted to wait until the nest was large enough to photograph. There was only one wasp here today, no idea where the other two were. He was a little sluggish so I had to coax him a bit to...

    Decay

There is an old abandoned house on the way to work and I have been eyeing it for a while. These two windows are on the front porch facing the street. They entire house is in a pretty advanced state of decay, and these windows display it well. The sky was overcast and there was actually a slight...

Playing around with saturation and exposure - NSFW

I took a lingerie image and dropped the saturation a good bit and raised the brightness an equal amount. Amber has a naturally light complexion and naturally very blonde hair What do you think?

A 41 MP cell phone camera?????

The very idea of it makes me laugh my butt off. AT&T is advertising one now. I don't care how MP is has, it is STILL a cell phone. What are your thoughts?

    Subscriptions

How on earth do I unsubscribe from all threads? I get at least a hundred emails a day informing me someone else has posted to a thread I posted a reply to. I have tried to delete all the subscriptions but when I try it tells me that that folder does not exist. I simply do not have time to even...
