    Post your Train shots!

Thank you. I was fortunate to have made a wrong turn in town, as this time I arrived on the sunny side of the train. It was a bit backlit, but not too badly. I have yet to see the CNJ, CR, Monongahela, NYC, NKP and NS.

I was blessed this day with another chance at capturing NS's Wabash "Heritage Unit". Unlike last week, this time she was leading the train and I hit paydirt. A fine looking locomotive from any angle. Yay!

As seen today, NS 191 made a stop at Monetta, SC while grain train 52D (to the right) worked the grain mill. The 52D had NS's Wabash unit in its consist, but it was trailing and I couldn't get a good picture of it.

Stopped in Spartanburg, SC today and found my way to Mangnolia Interlocking. With the wisteria in bloom, a shot was to be had. This is NS Train 213.

Just for the fun of it, I found my old Sawyer's Pana-Vue slide viewer and took a handheld D5100 photo of a slide displayed in its 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" window. I was surprised with the result as seen below, though anything larger isn't very sharp. Rio Puerco, NM - 06/08/1997 -- Nikon N2020...

    Post your Train shots!

Caught NS 192 advancing north in Blythewood, SC late this afternoon in rapidly fading light. Gosh I love digital photography -- this was taken at 1/800 at an ISO of 2000. Upon seeing the ISO reading, I almost didn't take the shot. I'm glad that I gave it a try. Once again, just amazing when...

Yep, ya take what you can get in rail photography, with safety being the primary concern. I've rejected many locations over the decades in respect of proximity to the track and/or the lack of an escape path. The other uniqueness with rail photography is the requirement to imagine how the scene...

    Post your Train shots!

I played around with another tunnel shot that I rejected and came up with this. My aging D5100 lacks the resolution of newer models and my Nikkor 55-200mm zoom was wound out to the extreme, but I thought it came out fairly okay given the circumstances and at 1600 ISO. Swannanoa Tunnel is 1,832...

Went back to the "Loops" east of Asheville yesterday with moderate success. First out of Swannanoa Tunnel was P87 ….. with ONE CAR. Nice, but not the spectacle I was hoping for. Some time later came manifest 135, but he was late and I'd lost my good light. Nonetheless, I'm glad to have...

NS helped out with the arrival of Train 192 with all three units running "elephant style". She's inbound from Macon, GA.

    Post your Train shots!

It's been crazy warm here in the Carolinas for early February, so I had to get outside and enjoy it. Got two shots of CSX F765, one in the countryside northeast of Columbia and another of the same train in Columbia passing the Amtrak station. I'd hoped to also capture the Columbia station sign...
