Thanks Chuck. Further south in the lowcountry we also found the SAL's station at Fairfax, SC. A former ACL branch crosses here too. Both lines remain active and the diamond sees numerous CSX trains every day.

CSX DPU helper unit brings up the rear as it sweeps through Hardeeville, SC on the former Atlantic Coast Line mainline. Branchville, SC depot on Norfolk Southern's line between Charleston and Columbia. This line was completed in 1840 and remains one of the oldest continually operated lines...

effects and scenes - anybody use?

I don't use them often because I forget they're there, but in the right location the miniaturization function can be fun. Shot these from a lighthouse several days ago.

Happened to see the thread so found a shot that might work. I usually speed read the rules and somehow foul up.

The PC unit was out for a joyride this afternoon. ;) Wheee! Actually, she's serving on local P85 and is returning running light after dropping some cars at an industry.

Here's one of their Jade Green boxcars like you remember. I think I shot this in Montgomery, AL in the mid-1980s. Their logo was known as the "mating worms".

Your memories are spot on. I was shooting b&w back then (why waste unaffordable color film on b&w locomotives :D) and found this one taken at Union Station in Chicago in about 1975.

Yay -- I caught up with NS's Penn Central Heritage Unit this afternoon, taking empty rock train 63R through Columbia. She's diverging on to the W Line to Spartanburg here.

Missed NS's Penn Central Heritage Unit this morning [ :( ], but heard the Dispatcher give clearance for another freight to leave the yard. I raced north to a spot I'd picked out and made it with one minute to spare. That's MP 101, 101 Miles from Charlotte Junction, NC.

Went to the Post Office this morning and then on to the nearby NS line to find local train P85 drilling about. A bank sign noted that the temperature was 100 Deg. Bleh. :p

Caught a rare daylight shot of the northbound Silver Star this morning. I'd forgotten about the dappled sunlight here, but I think I like it. I briefly considered hiking up to the north end of the siding where it's open and bright, but I like the forested composition in this shot better. Two...

Took the long route to the grocery store today so that I could check things on NS. A red signal indicated a northbound was due, so I set up for a picture. That's an SD-60 rebuild leading.

…. and one more. This of NS 192 leaving Columbia, SC headed north. With NS's Top21 operational changes, 192 has become an enormously long train. I'm surprised that it runs without helpers.

Coincidental with nikonpup's sighting of an SD-40-2 was my sighting of one today as seen here. NS is rebuilding these I think; such a beautiful shine. I love old signals, so was happy to capture one with this local. The "fishtail" plate on the signal mast identifies it as a "Distant" signal...
