Just bought a Sigma 50-100 f1.8 from Amazon and showed up today. Boxing it back up to go back to Amazon because they sent me a Canon mount even though the box says Nikon and the listing on Amazon says Nikon. How disappointing! Also ordered an X4 lens filter from Breakthrough Photography that needs to be returned now too along with the Sigma dock. Grrr!

0-for-2! Dude, that sucks. I hope the return and replacement is quick and painless. But damn, that really does suck.

Nope- Amazon says they will not replace the lens. They said if I wanted to return it, they would provide a refund. I knew it was too good to be true. Found it $200 less than everywhere else. No wonder they dont want to deal with a replacement. Sucks because now I gotta return everything else I got for this lens too. What a pain!

You're kidding? Even though the item was listed incorrectly on their end?? Jesus, Bezos can suck it. That stinks.

Any thought to selling it on Craigslist for a hundred bucks or so more than you paid for it? Still sounds like it would be a good deal to someone with a Canon, and give you a bit more towards a lens that actually fits your rig.

Jeez....

Its back to the jungle with that lens. Too bad, it felt better than I thought it might. I heard a lot of noise saying it was a huge heavy lens. For obvious reasons, I never got to mount it and feel the body lens combo, but the lens felt great!

Enter the "Mini-Beast II". The "Beast" of course, is the 600 mm f/4 ED-IF AIS Nikkor and the "Mini-Beast I" the 300mm f/2.8 ED-IF AIS. The "Mini-Beast II", and a beast it is, is my new (to me at least, I am the second owner) a mint condition 200mm f/2 ED-IF AIS Nikkor. It will be used primarily for outdoor portraiture but perhaps for some short range wildlife as well. On the D7100 it becomes a 300mm f/2. On the D850 it is astounding how sharp it is, even wide open. But it is no lightweight. As you see it in the image below, mounted on the D850 with battery grip, it tips the scales at s hefty 9.1 lbs. It is, however, beautifully balanced and I can hand hold down to 1/125 with no problem. There is both a sliding (and locking) lens shade as well as a detachable one.

Even though the V3 kit I bought from Adorama was superposed to include the viewfinder & grip it did not. So off it went back to them. To Adorama's credit they really tried to make this right, but in the end no joy in Mudville. crashton has struck out. :playful:

Recently sold off a half dozen of my old unused lenses and my D90 to fund a new (from Amazon) Nikon 70-300 FX VR E AF-P. My first "bought brand new" lens in 10 years. Took that long to recover from the financial hit of the 18-200DX when it first came out. I had to give an 85% discount to unload it last week.

Big fun with the 70-300 so far, the VR is truly an unbelievable 4+ stops on my D750. And it even auto-focuses!

Eager to try it on my 2.7x crop factor Nikon 1 J5 since I've got the adapter.

Purchased a new Godox trigger to use with the Z6. The original XPro that I purchased had some comparability issues. The new model X2TN has addressed those issues and Godox has tested them on the Z7. This afternoon I tested them on the Z6 and I am pleased to report that it works correctly. There is also a subtle enhancement to the trigger similar to what they did with the V1 flash. It has a 1/4 throw lock instead of a wheel and it works much better.

I have one of those. It works well, but some of the old slides my Grandfather took were a bit shaky. I have the 60 mm f2.8 D macro. It works well.

I have been kicking myself in the butt starting the day I got rid of my 500mm f/8 C Reflex Nikkor. The other day I was really wishing I had a long telephoto that focused closer than the beast. I picked up a used 500mm f/8 Reflex Nikkor, the updated version from the one I had for only about $300, a terrific bargain. It is in terrific shape and the focusing is buttery smooth. Some of the bird photos I have posted of late have been taken with this lens. As long as you are mindful of the background's specular highlights, it is impossible to tell from a conventional lens design. The only difference is it is about 1/5th the size and weight!

Just ordered these. Should have them by the end of the day on Thursday. Would be nice if they were on sale, but I need them, and they are my birthday/Christmas, so no guilt.
