8 foot step ladder.JPG

New fiberglass eight foot step ladder.

I figure since I've not been able to get a spare grand or two together for a drone - this eight foot ladder would have to do for now.

Latest purchase, though it has nothing to do with Photography other than it will breed some photographs..

Pat in GA

Pat that is sweet. I sold all my black powder guns in the early 80s I had a couple cap lock rifles; one Kentucky and one Hawkin. Always loved the dropped nose flintlock. Buddy of mine used to build them with curly maple stocks and silver furniture. They are beautiful to look at and a lot of fun to shoot.

50mm AFD 1.8-DSC_0860-0002.jpg

Stopped into a antique & collectible shop and found this 50mm AF 1.8 Nikkor. No "D" just AF. From what I've read one of the early copies as the originals were made in Japan in 1986 - sometime before they ended production in 2001 they moved production to China. This is a Japanese one. The case is not the original - it's a Pentax Macro 100 case. But it fits and was included. Dropped all of $25 on this lens. Tried it out on the D610 - works fine.

Shot of the burlap bag was sample image - nice and sharp. I did get the "EE" error first time I mounted it but if I turn the aperture ring all the way and remounted it and it works, had similar issue with my old AFD 50mm.

I think it should lock in place but have not figured out how to do that. I think the little button with the orange dot locks it but cannot get it to move. Will need to fiddle with it a bit more, and clean it up better too.

Sometimes small is good. I love my 1.4 Siggy Art 50mm but it is several times larger

I also have one of these. If you press down on the button with the white dot and rotate it clockwise so the white dot is opposite the orange mark, the F-stop ring will lock into the orange F22 position. Push down on the white dot button and rotate the F-stop ring to unlock it. If you press down and rotate the white dot button counterclockwise (so the white dot is towards the lens mount), then the F-stop ring will not lock.

Hope this helps.

Got it to work, thanks.

Liking this 'vintage' lens - very light, focuses seems fast enough. Going to be giving it a go tomorrow shooting the grandkids at play.

Follow up to my most recent picture - shot from same spot, one cropped a lot and not downsized, the other no cropped but downsized for upload.

The file name is the clue to which lens is which.

One shot with a $25 vintage Nikkor AF 50mm 1.8 - the other with a $1,000 Siggy Art 50mm 1.4 - can you see the $950 difference?

I prefer the warmer color of the top image. based on the EXIF data, the preferred photo is the one shot with the $25 lens. Yes the bottom image may be a little sharper, but is this little bit more sharpness worth 40 times the cost?

I tried to shoot both images about the same - but certainly not a clinically identical shot.

On the one hand, I'm ecstatic that I have a great lens for $25. On the other hand I feels maybe, just maybe I didn't need to spend a grand to get the Artsy new lens.

One difference is the focus speed - the AF uses the camera to focus - there is no motor in the lens - the Sigma focuses faster. But the Nikon AF focus is fast enough for 98% of the shots I'd take. May make a difference trying to get a fast moving subject - like a grand child or puppy - when they are not sitting still.
