Although I really didn't need anything photography-related, I stopped into Allen's Camera where they were having their annual sale. Picked up a NOS Gitzo series 2 monopod (aluminum) which is no longer manufactured. It was also on sale so am very happy. Currently I've been using a Manfrotto monopod, but I prefer twist locks as opposed to the flip locks on the Manfrotto. Will put my Manfrotto monopod head on it though since I am not a fan of Arca Swiss heads. A few years back, I also bought their last aluminum Gitzo series 2 tripod which is terrific. It's a shame Gitzo no longer makes aluminum tripods or monopods. They are extremely well-made.

And I also spoke with Jared Polin who used to be an employee there. He was helping out in some way. There were also reps from Nikon, Canon, Sigma, Tamron, Fuji, and a few others so many things in the store were on sale. Fun day for sure! :encouragement:

DSC_0305+SM Polaroid Swinger -0002.jpg

This is the camera I had as a youngster - oh the fun I had with this "Swinger" in the Swinging Sixties.

SwingerSample008.jpg
Dug into my old album for a sharable polaroid - this one struck me as probably my most accidentally artzy photo from that era - my kid brother and my Dad on a hammock.

I don't have many of my old Swinger shots - wish I had more.

But having a copy of that camera in my Vintage collection brings back memories.

Just got a Nikon F/F2 type "F" focusing screen. (12mm microprism circle, type J has a 5mm microprism circle)

Great for short telephoto outside.

The "She Shed" kit arrived today - costs the same as a Mavic but it does not fly.
My dearly beloved is so excited to have this new 'she shed' she has lots of plans.
This "She Shed" is a "thing" google it.

Seems 'assembly is required' and an allen wrench ain't going to do it.

Diving into the realm of "paid to shoot" so upgraded my lens stock just a bit. I had the 50mm 1.8 and 105mm 2.8 that I put to good use, but now...

How about the Tamron G2 24-70 2.8 and a Sigma 85mm 1.4 art? (Crummy on-the-run phone pics) This 85mm art lens looks monstrous even on my gripped D750! Can't wait to start shooting with these!

Congrats on two fantastic lenses. I just looked up specs on the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 art lens. Wow, it takes an 86mm front filter! This is the first time I've ever heard of that size.

Looking forward to seeing your images, Pretzel!

Since I'm slowly, but surely trying to move in on the higher end events these days I figured I'd treat myself to an early bday present to add some real finesse and delight to shooting the said events -

Incidentally, Allen's Camera in PA also had the bloody 100th Anni straps I've been waiting on forEVER from BnH, so now I'm canceling that order. Now, to add onto the crazy night last night, family friend I'm visiting with fam and childhood friend busted out this beauty-

So today will be a nice long day of Df and 20mm shenanigans in big apple.

Just picked up the SB-5000 Speedlight. At the beginning of September I bought the Westcott 26" Octabox kit with the 8' stand and it's still in the box. I tend to buy first and ask questions later (viz. Why do you think you need this?) Guess I'm going to start learning something new! ;)

I still don't have the remote trigger but they have ordered this because the store was out of them:

Anyone else using this set up?

What a haul I got given today
All for free - a box full of vintage film cameras.
Four Nikon bodies - F100, F90X, F70 and F601
A couple of Ricoh KR - the early KR5 and the KR10m
A Minolta XR5
And the two older ones - a Pentax "Spotmatic" from 1964 sporting the latest thing in photography - through the lens metering.
And the eldest of the batch - Kodak 35. This was Kodak's first 35mm series. This is "Version III from about 1947.

My display case if full - this may slow down my vintage acquisitions just a little.

My first 35mm SLR was a Minolta XG-M. It was a fantastic camera, and the owner's manual was surprisingly good at explaining the difference between how to use aperture priority vs manual mode. That's how I learned--and the owner's manual wasn't too long or overly detailed. There was just enough info to grasp the concepts.

I believe the F90x and F70 are the Japanese counterparts to the N90s and N70 (both of which I still have). The N70 threw a curve ball into Nikon's line up because the fan display on the top wasn't intuitive. It took me a lot of time to learn because I had to read, and reread, the owner's manual. There were many complaints about that design. But once learned, it too was a terrific body.

The N90s (and F90x) were the top of the line consumer bodies right below the pro bodies. In fact, lots of pros used them.

Kodak made decent cameras back in the day. My grandmother had some type of Kodak 126 film cartridge camera which took surprisingly good photos. She took it to India in 1966 when my grandfather was called out of retirement. My grandfather helped that country get electricity and running water as only some of the really big cities has those luxuries. They had electricity (and possibly air-conditioning) in their New Delhi hotel room but spent a considerable amount of time in the areas without electricity and running water. My grandparents were there for 1 year, and that Kodak held up despite the heat and being taken all over the world on their trip.

What a haul! ;) Congrats.

Wow that Kodak 35 is a real beauty. Also that Spotmatic Asahi Pentax rocks my world. What a great gift box someone gave you. :encouragement:
