Thanks, No vegetarians here and haven't bought beef in many years. That's a good looking bow. I used to shoot Hoyt, but that was a long time ago. They have come a long way since I shot. That will keep the freezer full.
Parts cost to repair this D810 is....About 300 dollars total. And totally worth it!
D750 shutter replacement: Roughly 100 bucks for the part, plus some time to do the work. What's going on there is that some people buy brand new cameras to take apart and sell for parts value, which is MORE than the price of the camera when all added up. You get a shutter that is for all intents and purposes brand new.
I've separated the mirror box from the shutter frame on the D810. Now I truly see the extent of the damage. And, thankfully, it's only in the plastic mirror box housing and none of the delicate mechanisms are damaged.
Actually getting it apart was not a bad job at all. And to keep matters simple, every time I had to unscrew anything to remove a part, I put the screw back in its original hole so I don't get them mixed up. This greatly simplifies the question of "Where does this screw go?" which always crops up if you just take the screws out and put them in the small parts box.

Could you post pictures of your progress so we can see the insides of the D810?
You SURE that ball head isn't removable? It got on there somehow! Twist harder and grunt louder. I bet it'll unscrew.
