D400 to be announced in September 2015

Maybe it's fantasy but I am still holding off on a D300s for now. In fact I will put all gear purchases on hold.

(and saving $$$/ clearing other hobby gear to build cash just in case)

Still no additional internet leaks tho which I agree is very troubling. I have shot with a Canon 7D (new) Nikon has to respond - it is a brilliant piece of kit. Blows D7100/ D 7200 away. Were I building a new camera bag it would be my first look.

I would suggest if Nikon does not repond they are completely abandoning that APS -C segment to Canon.

Ime sure i read a report where Nikon said they where aware of the situation but had to prioritize things,so they may have something up there sleeves,it will need to be earth shattering though and my money would not be on September.

I've shot with both myself and I'd have to say I think the D7100/7200's are pretty evenly matched against the 7D MkII.

The Canon has an additional 15 focus points (65 total), they're all cross-type (which I like a lot) and it shoots considerably faster but the Nikons have far higher max ISO's, wider dynamic range, better resolution and significantly better color depth. The Canon also costs what, a good $400 or so more than a D7200? I'm certainly not seeing how the 7D mops the floor with the D7200 but maybe I'm missing something...

Somehow I don't think he's shot with both cameras like you have. Might not be you that's missing something. Lol

Also I'd like to add that in terms of the AF, I think Nikon went for a quality over quantity sort of deal. Might not have as many points but it still focuses very quickly even in low light. Definitely comparable to the 7D at worst.

To defend I should have said it blows the D7200 away for the target market, a market the D7200 doesn't even pretend to be a player in. The huge burst rate, fast focusing while tracking action coupled with the ability to push ISO indoors.....performance that I want shooting surf and NCAA hoops.....among other things. Landscapes, portraits even birding not my thing currently or at least of less interest. My D700 is stellar in these action aspects of course but I can't afford a 500 to 600 tele like the sponsored shooters I see on shore so DX for surf is where it is at for me to bring the target in closer. In the gym the D700 with my 80-200 F2.8 is excellent.

The D7200 is a great, fantastic camera, but it is not a pro level sports shooter. It also does not have the pro level layout that has become second nature to me. Again, I think Nikon has been leaving a big market segment on the table. The D400 is necessary if Nikon is to cover all the DSLR bases. I also have only taken a brief spin with the D7200 so perhaps I am selling it a bit short. It's knocked out of consideration for me due to the different layout. If I insulted any loyal users I apologize. I think a combo kit of a D610/D750 and a D7100/D7200 is magnificent and have said so many times on the forums. I would be ecstatic to own that kit.

The frustration to me is that as soon as the D400 hits the marketplace it knocks Canon back on their heels immediately. We all know the Nikon AF in the pro cameras is unbeatable...match that up with the upgraded specs discussed and wow......

IMHO YMMV of course.

Canon 7D Mark II vs. Nikon D7100 - Which is better?

Not suggesting that the 7D Mark II are even in the target market......but others try to - the fighting over it in the comments section of the photographyife bit is pretty entertaining....
I'm not a huge DigitalRev fan but he throws his .02 in as well.

For entertainment purposes only.

Still gonna wait for the D400.

(hit the lottery I get a D3s and an arsenal of super long Nikon teles instead)

The lol factor is the fact you claim the 7D blows the D7200 out of the water when it really doesn't. Especially when the D7200 is better in a number of ways despite being a few hundred dollars cheaper. Sure it's also inferior in some areas but again look at the price difference. Overall, the D7200 is more comparable to the 7D Mk II than you think. To me, your choice of words was a little lol-worthy. Nothing more. I'm not saying you're completely wrong because some of what you said is definitely true.

...

Now that I'm not so sure about!

(But thank you...)

Ha ha YW!

Simplify my thoughts.....

I want 9-10 FPS a huge buffer and ability to shoot clean ISO 3200 of surfers on AF-C moving up to 40MPH while going up and down and all around in a D300s /D700 layout camera body = rumored D400!!

The new Canon 7D does all that......but it is not a Nikon !! My D300/D700 do 80% of what I want.....just gimme the upgrade/modernization I want Nikon!! Make it a priority to get this camera to market.
(and please make it MB-D10 compatible)

Ha ha X I will continue to work on that word choosing bit.....it is just that the whole no D400 thing makes me very irritated.

Shoot well my friend!

Lol I sometimes need to watch my words as well.

As for the D400 situation, I'm not one of the people that has been waiting for it but I can understand how those people feel. It's been quite a while.

Hello all,

I am currently eyeing the D7200 as my next upgrade, but reading here about the D400, seems it might be a better option. What do you guys think???/ Should I wait and see what comes, since Sept is just around the corner?
