It will be interesting to see how this plays out. When the D300 came out, was the price THAT much higher than other DX bodies? $2300 seems like an awful lot especially when the D750 costs less.

Think thats the problem with a pro DX,the assumption that because its DX its can only be worth less than FX,its possible that a top spec DX could be worth more than FX to a sports or wildlife photographer but its all about perception of worth.

So skip the D7200 and go directly to the D750. Try it, you will like it.

I would like the high iso, but would lose reach for birds, as birds are my favorite there is no contest, I have went thru this in my head more than a few times, I watched and read @mikew quest with his switch (switches) he is in the same boat so to speak.

I use the D7200 for birds, which in summer is great, and marginally beats my D810 for IQ cropped to the same size. Now that winter is here, i'm pretty much just using the D810, the D7200 is just not cutting it in the four figure ISO range

yeah but we have sunshine about 95% of the year, so I think it would work for me.

If it is a D810 body, big ol'buffer, same autofocus as the D4s-D810-D750, twin SD's and so on, then it will be far enough from the D7200 but different enough from the D750 to justify the price. If they build it down to a price, that could hurt it. As long as the quality lives up to the price than price, $2300 in this "rumor", then is it that much of a problem? Other than having to pony up some serious bones for it that is.

Agree, and I have a LOT of saving to do!!

I will not be the first owner of this much anticipated beast here on Nikonites unfortunately - a crown I had planned on wearing.

Life and the bills that come along with it is getting in the way of my photographic hearts desire.....

Agreed! For anyone needing the reach that DX offers (birding, sports, etc), taking the benefits of the FX pro bodies and the DX sensor would help justify the price. Would I buy it ... no, but I'm not the target shooter for a pro DX camera either.
