I definitely have my eye on this lens next now. I just went the other way first and got the 70-200 a couple of days ago and I'm so impressed with it. The quality of the lens and the images from it are outstanding. So now after looking through this thread and seeing all the happy owners and excellent images, the decision has been made, can't wait to add this lens to my bag.

I have read thru this thread with much interest, and really am excited about it, but dang, it is PRICEY on a (bottom) feeder pilot's wage!!!!! Am trying to find a cheaper alternative, but just can't find it's equal so far. I keep coming back to this lens, Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM FLD, as I like the stabilization built in (a must for me), the f2.8, and it is much cheaper to purchase. But.........I really want a bit more zoom with the lens, but have to wonder if that extra little bit is worth another 5-600 dollars.
I really enjoy my newfound Nikon equipment, but sometimes miss Pentax from where I came.......I really liked the built in body stabilization.
Anyway, gonna keep an eye on this thread and keep learning and dreaming about this Tamron lens and hopefully the price will continue to drop.

Since the day of its release, I have seen many posts on forums with people stating that the price will drop in a few months-those same people seemed to think the lens is overpriced. Anyway, I have not seen a price drop on this or the 70-200 yet. Perpetual rebates, yes, but no actual price drops. And I know what you mean about IBIS instead of lens IS. That being said, the images I'm getting from my Nikon body far surpass anything I could ever dream about with my old IBIS Oly body.
I'm going to throw my 85 1.8 on Ebay in the next week. I've only used it once, and that was to test it out when I first purchased it. I simply need a zoom, so I've pretty much decided to take the plunge and order up the Tamron. If and when I might have the time, I'll post some comparison shots between it and the Nikon 24-120 f4.

Hi andrew, you mean the new 70-200 with os? For me this would really be just a nice to have, most of what i shoot is within the reach of my 75-150 on a dx body. I really love my 24 70 though and like another poster hrre will now also sell my 85 1.8g
Hi Martin, yes I have the new os version or vc as they call it on Tamron. I'm not sure how I would go with this lens on a DX body, but I use it a lot from 100mm up, so it should be really good I would think. It wasn't a lens I felt I had to have either so I never even considered spending the extra on a nikon and I really only got this because I got a good deal on it at the time. I was looking at getting a 24-70, but like I said, the price was right and I figured I had a 24-85 already so I could wait a little longer for a good lens in that range. BUT, once i got it, I haven't been able to take it off and I'm shooting things I was never able to shoot before and I'm loving it. Best lens I have ever bought. I used to pretty much only shoot in the 24-70 range but since I bought the 70-200 I've come to realize that I never used that range because I never had the glass to get the results I'm getting now. I was on the fence about getting it, but I'm really over the moon about it now.

I just purchased the Tamron 24-70 VC, myself, it was an easy decesion though as the Nikon equivalent is $1500 more expensive. I purchased mine for $980 (ticket price was $1099). In addition stock is very limited down here and many stores are waiting on stock from Tamron which mean't up to 2-4 weeks wait so when I found it, I snatched it up haha.
I haven't taken many shots with it however I am happy with what it has produced and I know it can only get better with learning and practice.

Took this shot for an example of it's not always what it seems. The colors and sharpness jumped out at me.
The sharpness and colors are waaay better than the subject haha.

I've had my Tamron 24-70 VC a couple of weeks now and have really come to love it.
Back in April I had bought a used Nikkor 28-70 2.8 that I found at The Camera Store while in Calgary and since I was on a week's vacation was taking a lot of photos (as in about 1,000) but on my last full day in town the zoom failed and thankfully I was able to return it to the store for a full store credit (not a refund but almost as good).
I have an old 28-85 AFD from my film days and wondered did I really need to upgrade it - it works fine. And the new lens was a lot of money.
I was able to get to a small camera show hosted by McBains Camera in Edmonton earlier this month and had a chance to handle the Nikon, Sigma and Tamron lenses I was considering. The Siggy was their 24-105 ART F/4. We left the show with the Tamron in a bag. And went from the Camera Show to a Parrot Show. Talk about a perfect place to try out a new lens.
All shot on my D610 - no flashes.

Thinking of spending my store credit on the Tamron 70-300 VC. I would love to get the 70-200 2.8 VC but the fun fund is depleted now, but I have a store credit which will get me $250 off of the price of the 70-300 - so can pick it up for $250 more. Been reading (and seeing on YouTube) some great reviews of that lens too.
