I hope you don't mind but I used CaptureOne to do a bit more PP on your moonshot to try and get even more detail out.

What do you think ?

You captured so much detail in the original.

Shows I need to fiddle a little more (I had dishes to do). Now I wish I had set up the tripod, instead of just running out and snapping a few hand-held.

Not as good as some others in this topic but the best one I've taken so far. The last full moon of 2013.

You think you got better focus with the VR on in this shot? Uh...no! Take another look. I can see the "shake" just by looking at the craters on the moon. Not clear at all.

Ran outside for a quick shot of the last full moon for 2013. D3100 with my 70-300VR @ 300mm, handheld, f5.6, ISO 200, 1/1600.

Then I thought... might as well throw in my fave moonshot to date. :) This was a waxing crescent moon with the same combo, but at f4.5 and 1/160 shutter (not as bright as the full moon).

Not as grand as many of the shots in this thread, but I do what I can.

You should see the ones without...LOL....you cant make out any features...I am stretching the limit of the lens.at 270mm its as far as its goin and it shows,I dont have anything longer,ATM,so as my dad says, you get what you get and you dont get anymore. When I get a some good glass I will post a better pic, till then i will stay out of the thread....

Keep trying, it takes practice ;-)

I second that.

My first moon shots were NOT fantastic, nor are they where I would like them to be yet, but they're getting better! Every time I shoot, I learn a little more, and TBH, your 270mm isn't much shorter than my 300mm, so keep workin' on it!

Ok everyone here's my take of last nights full moon from Memphis Tn. I used a d3100 in manual mode f/2.8 1/500 ss and iso 100 with a roughly 450mm lens and processed in view nx2.
