Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Review

Understood. I had the same problem with all my wonderful 4/3rds lenses on the Olympus E-M5. Nothing more frustrating than a lens which operates seemingly 1,000x slower than what we actually want/need.

I tried to take some action shots of my dogs playing ball in the full sun and didn't get one keeper.

settings?

Aperture priority mostly wide open
Matrix metering
all three focus types single point dynamic and closest subject
continues focus

The focus motor couldn't keep up.
My 70-300 with the Ultra Silent Drive USD the same as my 24-70 VC and my soon to be 70-200 VC has no
problem at all keeping up.

Hmm, I don't have any dogs, otherwise I would give that a shot myself. I didn't have any problems focusing on runners, bikers or motorcycles, but they aren't as spastic as dogs. Speed skating won't be until the end of December, so I'll have to wait until then to get a true test of the focusing.

Are your shots sharp on static objects?

I know you said aperture priority, but what about shutter speeds?

Looking forward to trying it out tonight. It came in late last night.

Okay, I missed something somewhere. I thought you already had the VC. In any case, it sounds like it is working out for you. I know you mentioned the AF being able to keep up, but what are your thoughts on the general image quality? Are you as impressed as the rest of us, especially for the price paid? Speaking of price, I ended up with $300 in rebates for this lens ($240 from Tamron, $60 from Amazon). Definitely a killer deal for a very nice lens.

I have both the old and new version now. I'm selling the old one because while the IQ is unreal the focus speed doesn't suit my needs. I bought mine from Amazon also at a discount.
VERY nice lens for sure.

Here are several photos I took with my D7100 and the Tamron 70-200 of my family punkin pickin over the weekend. These are just jpegs with no extra processing done and I have to say I am very pleased with the results for using it for the first time.

The shot of your little girl is razor sharp with great color and exposure. The others are good but that one jumps out. Tamron has always impressed me.

I think with some processing the tractor will really pop. I need to spend some time I don't have to do that...
