WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! Creepy, icky, sneezy spider photo below! :) I went out just a few minutes ago to see if there were any interesting bugs that have been brought out by all the heat and humidity we have been having. There were lots of creepy-looking spiders eating all sorts of things. This guy even creeped spousal unit out. His comment was, "EEUUUIEEEOOOOO! Eight-legged freaks!" Yes, just like the movie. :)

This is a labyrinthine orb weaver spider eating some kind of green stripy bug, with a few more ready for spider wrapping.

Nice insect shots, Barbara! Not my favorite subject for sure, so thanks for the warning LOL. Really like the shadowing on the damsel fly shot.

Jeff,

Thanks. Spiders are not my favorite critter, but seeing them through the camera makes them much less creepy. I loved the idea of all the bugs caught in the web while the spider was wrapping up its current victim.

Helene,

Thanks. Spiders are not my favorite critter, either, but I just thought this was fascinating, especially with all its meals ready to eat. I showed this to my students this morning, and they loved the ick factor. But then again, what else would you expect from teenagers. :)

I, too, love how the shadow of the damselfly came out. I took that in the late afternoon yesterday and the light source was just sunlight. I also liked how it came out in almost monochrome without having to do any selective color on a B&W image.

No warning needed for this post. No ick factor critters, either. :)

This morning as I was leaving for work, two catbirds chased a blue jay away from the seed that had fallen to the ground beneath the bird feeder. I missed the shot of the catbirds chasing the blue jay, but did get this image of one of the catbirds afterwords.

Just on a whim, I converted this to B&W. It has an entirely different feel. I like it, too.

I like both of them also. I especially like that you caught the light in his eyes. Nice!

I think the heat finally got to me today. With temperatures around 93°F and a heat index of 103°F, taking any photos outside was definitely not in my world view this afternoon. That made me resort to the opportunistic feline photo opportunity. :) I caught Alex in one of her more contemplative moods:

It only got to 91° here today with heat index of maybe 95° or so. We have had a hot but milder than normal summer so far. Plenty of rain also. Seems that we have swapped weather systems. My wife and I were discussing it earlier today. She was wondering if people in the north and especially Canada had central AC.

It was hot here too... 96 F and the heat index was well over a 100... I did go out.... :)

It was cooler than that in my neck of the woods today. Mid 80's, mostly cloudy with some sunshine.

A lot of people have central A/C here but the majority of people are like us. We have two window air conditioners which keep the house nice and comfy on hot days. Most of the time, we really don't need A/C so the window air conditioners work very well. Right now, the dog and all four cats are enjoying the cool of the A/C.

We live in southern central NY state, right along the NY-PA near Binghamton, if that gives you an idea of how far north we are.
