After all the heat and humidity, today was one of those wonderful, sunny summer days.

I think I was stalking this blue jay and he wasn't happy about it.

Here are a few quick shots I took late this afternoon.

Back to the ripening nightshade:

I had better luck with bumblebee photos today than previously.

It's bug day! Or at least it seemed that way. :) I have no idea what species of creepy crawly this insect is, but they seemed to be on all the goldenrod and Queen Ann's lace today.

Would Queen Ann have Approved?

Both were taken with my D3000, 18-55 VR zoom, ISO 200. The goldenrod was shot at f/8 and 1/200 s, and the Queen Ann's lace was shot at f/9 and 1/160 s.

Neat looking bug. Now you have to find out what it is

7-28-13: Birds and Butterfly

For some reason, we have a lot of catbirds this year. There was one on a wire screaming at me this morning when I was out with the dog. Here are a few of this very vocal bird.

Okay, Now What?

Yo!

While walking through the woods this afternoon, I came across this butterfly just flitting around until it landed on a tree trunk. No, I have not researched what type of butterfly it is yet. :)

7-28-13: Turkey Vultures

I thought these photos would be better suited to their own post, so here they are.

We have a dead yearling deer in the woods. Yeah, yucky, stinky. The turkey vultures didn't take very long to find it. I was walking towards the woods and these guys flew off before I could get close enough. After a few minutes, there were about 8 of them just cruising in circles above me, either waiting for me to leave, or looking for something else to chow down.
