Shot with the intention of mating the 24-85mm to the D800 for a discussion elsewhere. Could have used just a touch more DoF.

Here are some backyard birds shot with the D600. All are at ISO 1250 and the level of noise from this sensor always impresses me. I could wish for a little nicer bokeh from the Sigma 150-500mm, but I'm splitting hairs. All were also shot in FX mode, and cropped to a size that would be DX or maybe smaller.

Been so busy, but once again I'm fortunate when I don't have time to go out to nature, nature comes to me.

"Franklin" the resident turkey makes daily visits to the feeder area

Both are great shots. Normally we do not think of New Jersey as a place where we could see this kind of nature. Seeing all your photos has given me a different attitude toward your state. Not just Snooki & JWoww.

You guys keep thinking that - we've got enough traffic!! LOL Truth is, if the only part of the state you've seen is flying through Newark and what you see on The Jersey Shore or Real Housewives, you've seen the heavily urbanized, NY influenced upper right corner, and those who love that section can keep it. The state is amazingly diverse in its beauty, and ecotourism is a highly untapped industry. Heck, if you were asked to name the state that hosts the World Series of Birding every year I suspect you'd go through almost a dozen before NJ ever entered your mind. And if you paid attention, when the Soprano boys were dumping bodies somewhere other than long term parking at EWR or in the swamps of the Meadowlands, they were in some heavy wilderness.

And once again, for the record, Snooki and JWoww are New Yorkers from Staten Island. ;)

The only times I have been to your state was when I went to a training session when I was buying a new photo finishing machine. We had a view of NY city from there.

And that's the part everyone knows, and for people traveling in on business, the only corridor they've visited. You have to get about 45 minutes south or west of there before you start seeing the parts of the state that keep me here. If you look at a map, take a look at the loop that Interstate 287 makes. Everything inside that loop, with the exception of the shore, is what "typical NJ" is in the minds of most people. Then have a look at how much of the state you have left. From an amazing shoreline to the Pine Barrens in the south to the hills of the north (I will not call them "Mountains" as they do not compare to what's west of the Mississippi) it's a beautiful state, with a lot of history to be seen.

A pair of edits of the same shot from yesterday morning for the current monthly contest. I like them both but went with the color because I think the contrast in colors gives it just a little more pop. What do you think? Faced with these decisions my choice always seems to run counter to popular choice. LOL
