this got a snap because it was so darn exciting!! I found green! I found an earthworm! A real live earth worm!

This reminded me of the movie How to Eat Fried Worms.

We must have a warm house because this is the 2ft wide garden beside the house and beside this is our driveway which is still completely covered in hard packed snow. Finding this bit of green and a worm was exciting :)

feathers on the snow
my family rolled their eyes and told it was ridiculous to take pics of feathers and snow
but it caught my eye and I tried a few angles and a few different settings but much later realized I should have taken my CPOL filter off :(

I liked the angle of the tree shadow on this one

Do not, I repeat, do not let let your family dissuade you from what photos you want to take. They will never understand. :) Believe me, my spousal unit thinks that some of the things I photograph are just plain odd, other times, he'll scratch his head and think I have probably lost my mind, like the time I photographed bear scat because it was the only proof I had that a bear lives in the woods up the hill from us.

Keep taking those photos, and enjoy yourself!! :)

LOL Piperbarb I would totally do that!

Today kids gave me the eye roll again as I set an egg shoot :)
So frustrating though when handheld and auto works best after all the things I tried on my tripod UGH!
Photography course at the college was cancelled last week so first class tomorrow yippee!

What are the dark and really dark eggs from?

All the eggs are from my waterfowl big white ones geese and the rest are duck eggs. Duck eggs all have a waxy like protective coating on the egg which is heaviest at the beginning of the laying season. Black eggs are my from my Cayuga ducks. They should look black because they are pure black but if scratched the shell is grey green underneath. Some ducks love to roll and tuck eggs into the hay so can get quite scratched like the one on left side.
I was really trying to get my colours right for this shoot :( Do the row of 4 under the goose eggs look green on your screen?

Neat eggs. I work with a woman (the high school English teacher in our school) who raises chickens. I have gotten some of the best eggs from her "green-egg" laying hens.

BTW, some of my students (I teach high school science) think some of my photos are just weird. I use some as the changing wallpaper on my school laptop and as the screensaver. They haven't seen the bear scat yet but they did see the racoon paw prints in the mud photo. As one of my students said one time, "Mrs. Pruitt, you are just mad weird." I guess that was a compliment. :)

Sounds like a compliment to me!
My son gets far more interesting and colourful eggs from his chickens maybe I'll do a chicken egg shoot one day when I need inspiration. Green eggs would be from easter egger chickens which are cross between a brown egg laying chicken and a blue egg laying chicken either Araucana or Americauna (my son had both but lost them over the winter).
I was trying to get the snow and white eggs white and the coloured eggs to look the correct colour while getting focus and seeing if I could show some snow texture.

Being married to a high school English teacher for 37 years I can attest to the fact that all teachers are crazy.

Not really, but it could be my screen. They're sort of beige. The three on the right side and the one to the left of the black one look green. Bet it's tough making Easter eggs at your house.

Ok Thanx Nikonpup glad I'm not going crazy and just seeing the colours I want to see :) Probably a huge difference in screens I have mac pro and I think it's LED lit ??? but I usually turn it down a bit so my pics don't end up too dark on my parents and in laws screens.

Quail are fully feathered and full grown. They are super quick, fly very well and don't stay in one spot so impossible to photograph. Maybe when kids go back to school (2 week spring break this yr) I'll put the cats outside and see what I can do about taking their pics :) I'll probably get my exercise chasin them around the house LOL

Oh Marilynne my son has over 30 chickens in his coop and a couple lay white eggs so no worries finding eggs to colour :) I have quite the collection of blown goose eggs that my children have coloured for me over the last couple of years. Goose eggs are the best for colouring and kids sure can be creative LOL

The four eggs under the goose eggs are green on my screen too.

I use charts like this one for screen calibration and have another for print calibration.

I'm so excited I had my first photography class tonight and I can't wait until next week! Ready to learn how to capture "images" instead of only snaps :) Teacher uses Nikon Woohoo

Here's a snap from today. I tried to get a shot of my cayugas but failed miserably

Is there a big drop on the other side of the barricade? I don't know about the deer in your neck of the woods, but the ones around here are rather on the dumb side. I realize deer are not the brightest of animals, but still...

Oh its fairly steep Piperbarb but the river is below so probably safer, and more food down there. They are ALL over the place in town right now since snow is melting faster down there

Well during todays try at the monthly challenge I learned that the remote and my camera get bored when I take too long to set up a shot which is really frustrating when each time I have to reset up as my partner walked away each time... Finally got everything to work together and as I went to take down tripod etc my daughter showed up with treats and horses stuck around (go figure) I got much better pics of her. I love candids I love capturing those wonderful expressions and I caught a couple wonderful ones but here's my fancy dressed girl with her mare (right) and my boys
