Day 62 - March 3rd, 2013

Today we have a couple portrait shots that were the result of some comments on my 1st Portrait Thread...

Two different light setups as suggested by Scott (STM)

Left - 2 equal lights with umbrellas at 45 deg and looking down 30 deg
Right - a single light on center above camera

I did not have a good reflector but that could be used to reduce shadows in the right photo...

Learning every day!! :)

You're getting there Pat, very nice. So now it's only a question of taste and more experiments. I think I prefer the one with only one light on the right, but the other one isn't bad either...

Marilynne & Marcel,

Thank you both for the comments.. I have had fun this weekend doing this, the Challenge and the close ups!! time to take a break and go ride my motorcycle in the snow! I am anxious for Spring Marcel, then the birds will return and I will be able to and learn more about shooting them. Hard to do when Marilynne and Jeff have them all trapped in the south!! :)

I agree with Marilynne. The left one seems a little softer. The right one looks harsher and shows too many wrinkles.

Barb, thanks for taking the time to look and even more so to add your comments. They are appreciated!!

I totally agree with the softness but on the other hand, the right (or lower) pic seems to make her face look thinner... choices, choices, choices.. I could soften up the 2nd in PP too...

As a middle-aged woman, I'd rather have fewer wrinkles. :)

That is a nice husky… sure look friendly.

He is a beauty Marcel. He is sitting out at least 50% of the time I am at Horseshoe Pond, and he appears very friendly. I usually just stop in front of the house and take the shot out the truck window. If his people were ever out, I may ask to greet him and photo him up close.

Then I went over to Horsehoe Pond at lunch..
Ice fishermen out on the pond... the pond is thawing, I would not trust it!
A small gaggle of ducks! :)

Love the ducks photo. Too bad there were all those branches in the way.
