Cross posted - also in my 2018 thread. After owning this lens for a while, I was finally able to get a few train photos. I always enjoyed seeing heavy equipment photos taken by @Rick M with this lens.

Seen last week in Chester, SC, Lancaster & Chester 6002, an EMD SD40T-2 built in May 1980 for the Southern Pacific. These were specially designed with a large cooling air intake you can see at the rear, down low along the walkway. Nicknamed "Tunnel Motors", the relocated intake brought in cooler air from tunnel sides to reduce engine temperatures. It's likely the 6002 will never see another tunnel, but her new owner will appreciate her 3000 HP. Business is booming on the L&C!

Seen the same day on NS is this strange visitor from another planet, a custom-rebuilt locomotive owned by Herzog to serve work trains. Herzog contracts with railroads for services such as tie replacement. My guess is that her unusual side blisters contain a double serving of diesel fuel, allowing work to continue in remote locations. I'm not sure though.
