Your Best D5100 Photos

always Raw. maybe some are due to exposure issues but they're never sharp - i always have to adjust hilites, shadows, clarity, sharpness and somtimes contrast in either Lightroom or PS to get them to look decent if it's even salvagable in the first place. another thing that keeps happening is the mirror is always getting smudged somehow. i'm always cleaning it even though i set the auto-clean option to On in the camera.

Honestly, if you have the exposures really correct, there should be little you "have" to do in post, but pretty much always some to bring out the best image. If you want to do nothing, you may want to consider JPEG as you can adjust the settings in camera for JPEG shots. Alot depends on what you want to do with the pictures. I shoot raw and have to (or want to) make some adjustments to most of my pictures... some is a simple "auto adjust" in LR.

You may want to consider going under the "Photo Evaluation" section and Feedback... Post up an un-edited and an edited version of the same picture and some of the folks here can probably give you some ideas...

If you are not in focus ("maybe some are due to exposure issues but they're never sharp"), that could be the mode and/or how you are focusing or your shutter speed.. The Exif data for the sample pic will help people give you the best ideas...

I assume you meant "sensor" and not mirror regarding cleaning?? If you meant mirror, the built in clean function is for the sensor... How are you cleaning it..

Feedback area may be the best place to take this .... with samples and EXIF...

Today at our company Xmas party, they announced the winners of the Company Photo Contest. .. Entries were due in Sept. I had sent in a couple different shots, a summer scene (Horshoe Pond), a Fall Scene (also HP) and a winter scene in my town of Hudson.

The winning pictures are added to the wall decor in the building and there are some amazing shots over the years .. They have not had one in many years (none since I hired in 8 years ago.

I was honored to take 1st place this year and it was my photo at Horseshoe Pond in Merrimack NH which is also where the plant is located... The prize is they make 2 prints, framed and matted, one with a plaque identifying the name, position (1st or 2nd) and year is hung at work.. The 2nd is presented to the Employee...

This photo was taken with my D5100 and is likely one of my best shots with that camera...

as far as the mirror, all i know is inside the opening that houses the lens, there are 2 pieces of glass - 1 at an angle and the other flat. these are what are getting dirty and what i'm cleaning. since they are made of glass i figured one of them is a mirror.

Maybe not the place but I took this with my D5100 and the kit lens. I think I might have adjusted the sharpness a little. I can't remember but it's pretty sharp. The only time I run into pics not being sharp is night shots and I think that is still me for the most part and the fact that they are night shots. LOL jpg on auto focus.

There is a story here. I've passed this church many times but I guess not after dark. This window is probably 10 feet tall but in the day there is no color. I went by the other night after dark when it was lit up.

I wish everybody a happy new year.

As its my first post here and actually my first steps on photography with a decent camera, i really hope that this won't be my all time best. It was one of the firsts that i took while learning my new nikon d5100.

Enjoy...
