Great shot of the bicycle wheel - another of your famous (in my eyes) tyre shots!
I could easily spend a day watching you shoot.

Thanks Lawrence! I know you are a big fan of my tire shots, I'll try to find some more for you :)
Tomorrow should be even more fun. It's farmer's market day, which means street photography!

What inspires me looking through your photos is that you give us no excuses for not having something to shoot. You've got a terrific eye for seeing a shot where others just see "normal life". My ass is sufficiently kicked for the day. Time to go out and shoot.

Jake, you do such justice to my photos. It really means a lot coming from you. I've seen your work and have been impressed, and to have you be inspired by my photography is awesome.

I think there are fascinating things everywhere around us and in our everyday lives. I like small details that other people miss. Maybe that's why I like street photography so much. I look at individual faces instead of the crowd as a whole. Other times, I like stepping back to get the "big picture", as you can possibly see from my landscapes and cityscapes. I try to keep myself from coming up with reasons to not go and shoot. Instead I keep thinking that the next great shot is out there just waiting for me. And it never really gets old. :)

PART 1

Right. Farmer's market day! I went into this whole thing with two goals: 1. Be more selective about my shots, focusing on things that interest me rather than just trying to get shots of people in the streets, and 2. get some delicious street pizza. :) I spent the whole time looking for faces, clothes, or actions that intrigued me, and kept myself from getting shots just because they were easy. Instead, I focused on things of interest, getting closer, and capturing a moment. All the thought I've put into it shows. I am so very pleased with this group of images.

Here's an example of what I mean. This photo isn't actually in perfect focus, but it's very interesting, and I'm very happy with the framing.

This is the first real interaction I've had with someone I photographed. She noticed me getting the photo and asked about it. I explained that I am a street photographer and I like taking pictures of interesting people. I also complimented her on her hat. She was so flattered that I thought she was so interesting that it completely overpowered the fact that a random stranger had just taken a photo of her. I am going to get a print made and give her one next week.

PART 2

I love photos of kids. Kids are the most straightforward and candid humans on the planet. Often the honest interactions of kids and parents are equally fascinating.

Baskets! These are made in Africa.

This guy likes large melons :D

PART 3

It's a filthy habit, but I find the actions and expressions of smokers very interesting.

Again, kids and parents...

Random architecture shot in the middle of candid portraiture. See, the 50mm focal length is damn all handy.

I FINALLY GOT HIM!!! I've been chasing a good shot of this homeless guy for months and I finally got him!

PART 4

You know that warm sunlight in the early morning? You know, the one that makes you want to take a nap in the middle of the street surrounded by hundreds of people?

Again, I say! Kids! Add balloons and they are fascinated.

Dude in a leather vest and a fedora. That's all.

I like older, more weathered faces. Hard lines and rougher skin. I have no idea why, but I think they are fascinating, and they make for amazing photographs.

PART 5

This couple was from Italy, and they just looked so expressive and fashionable.

Babies!

Friends are fun to photograph too.

And finally, I was able to get my delicious lunch. A margherita pizza, made Italian style in a wood burning oven. The only pizza in town that's as good as that pizza I had from an Italian gentleman in France.

Not a huge load of stuff the past few days.

Just doing some around the house kind of shooting.

I have some more, but they haven't been edited yet. My free trial of Nik's software ran out. I want to keep using it, so I have to plonk down $150. Should be able to do that soon and return to editing. Tomorrow is another farmer's market, so more street photography. :)

Also, I may have found an awesome deal on a D610 that I might not be able to pass on. We shall see.

Nik Tools is turning out to be my favorite PP software as I'm learning more and more about how to use it.
Color FX pro and Silver FX pro are the most used for me.

Some great street shots there.
I really liked one of the early ones - the guy in the jumper. Looks brilliant in black and white.
Its fun isn't it and so rewarding when someone gets chatting - like the lady with the hat.
Great idea to only take shots of faces that interest you. I am still a bit nervous and take shots of people who don't look as strong as me. ;)

And now I feel like pizza. The only type - a margherita!

I'd really like to upload some of the photos I took yesterday, but I'm having an issue buying the Nik software package, so all my editing is on hold right now.

Last night, I tried getting a shot I've been thinking about doing for a long time. I got set up on a roundabout and had my friend drive around it a few times. I need a little bit wider lens, but I really like the initial results.
