I don't see very many Green Herons in the Boulder area, so was happy to see this juvenile today at Sawhill Ponds. (I think this is the first time I've managed a flight shot of a Green Heron. )

These look like a Monarch, but are actually a Viceroy which mimics the Monarch. Monarchs are toxic to birds so birds avoid eating them

, so it's a good butterfly to copy
