Those of you in the southern US are probably used to seeing Wood Storks, but this bird is the first Wood Stork seen in Colorado in about 80 years. Fun to see here at the 40th parallel. I'm still sorting and processing, but these takeoff shots were fun to get.

Normally we don't get any of those here however, last year one showed up at the Falls of the Ohio and stayed on the side of the river that was furthest away so I was able to get any photos. Great shots!

Thanks, Robin. The 300 with 1.4 TC is great for lager insects, butterflies, etc. You can focus pretty close and still stay far enough away to keep from frightening the subject.
I have a Tamron 1.4 TC and have used it with my Nikon 500mm lens but it seems to always make the photos soft. However, wouldn't using a 1.4 TC give you about a 450mm range? Is there that big of a difference using the 300mm with the TC than using your 500mm lens?

420 mm. You can focus a lot closer. It is also surprising how much difference there is between 420 and 500 at times.

I have an older Nikon 1.4TC, and it works really well with the 300mm. With my 500mm, it is significantly less sharp with the TC. No idea why.
