Nice vid Mikew. I suppose I am concerned having watched a man obviously on his own taking photos of kids with an ordinary slr. It was so obvious what he was doing my wife said that he was probably ok BUT with 16mp available on a discreet phone........... We must not forget that it is creeps who have made life difficult for genuine photographers and I firmly believe the mobile phone in the wrong hands has a lot to answer for. One only has to look at what happened to some soldiers in Iraq.

A long time ago photography required skill, and a lot of investment in big cameras and lenses. Things change.

If it weren't for Eastman and that damn Brownie we'd all have decent incomes as pros!

They are great and a nightmare. While on vacation it was great looking everything up on trip advisor as we went. Reviews of restaurants and especially activities/attractions saved a lot of time/money and bad choices. The downside is I'm always at work via Email/text/cell even while on vacation.

My work offered to "let us" port our personal number to a company provided cell phone due to a change in the reimbursement policy. I said no. I keep my personal cell separate. When and only if I want to be contacted, I'll turn on Google Voice so it rings my personal cell number and give that out. Otherwise, when I'm off - I'm off and I leave the work cell on my desk. Those that I want to, have my personal number.

I understand what you are saying re how useful / annoying mobile phones are but why 16mp on a phone?

IMO it's just marketing. Marketers realized a long time ago that if you can quantify a product then it's easier to sell it. Like car manufacturers market numbers like HP, MPG, Torque, braking distance, crash ratings, etc.

For phones its a MP race. If you ask 10 people what camera phone they would rather have a 8MP or 16MP camera phone, I bet all 10 say 16MP phone. They're not concerned about sensor size, max and min apertures and ISO performance. So because of this, it's a race to see who can pack the most MP in a sensor.

I have not seen any $1231.32 US phones here. A iPhone 6 Plus is $749.00 US.
Now why would anyone want one? The cameras are fantastic. The most important thing about that camera phone is that you always have it with you. As for the rest of the phone? The apps are endless. The photo apps are great. Need to know if the sunset will look good at a place you are going to? There is an app for that. Need a DOF guide for all your lenses? There is an app for that. News, weather, traffic, trip planning with GPS. It is all there. I have all my doctor's appointments set up, even those that are 6 months from now and I get a reminder the day before to alert me and then a second alert an hour before travel time so I have time to get dressed etc. In my family we like text better than phone calls. First they are short and sweet and we can deal with them as we have time and most importantly we have proof that "I told you so!"

I logged in just so I could like this. :)
