Why most of the press shoot with Canon and not with Nikon ?

Hello,
I am just wondering why most of the press shoot with Canon and not with Nikon ?

I think it is marketing. Canon is a bigger company and always have dominated the market. It's like why Kodak and not Fuji? ...

It's also interesting to note that NASA used a whole lot of Nikons.

I think nikon, in many other ways besides PJ/sports work, react too slowly. when the canon monster IS lenses were dominating the sideline, nikon didnt bring anything for years. who the hell would switch over to nikon when it costs more and you have so much invested in one brand. I wouldnt. I love the fact that my shooting partner is nikon and when I want a lens or flash, I borrow what I need from him.

QC is crap as of late. overly high prices. reputation is being hurt with the defective products. 24% stock loss on the last quarterly revenue and 14% the one before that says something. theyre asleep at the wheel there and some managers need to go home. wake up nikon. where are the wireless slaved flashes?

lets not worry about QC and being innovative. we can always just make another one with a 10 added to the model. better we just get that shmo kutcher to stand there holding a camera..yea, thatll work.

I don't get why you the OP get all wrapped up on this? Just worry about what you have since none of them including your professor's preference will matter on how your photography progresses.

I'm not a pro photograper. So when I went up from a P&S, I bought both Canon & Nikon's entry level DSLR cameras, a T3, and a D3100. After about a year, I found I liked the way the Nikons felt and performed better to me than Canon. Both were very nice, but I knew I could not move up in both brands affordably. So chose Nikon as the way to go. I now have a D7100 and a 18-300 Nikon, and could not be happier with the set up.

WOW

The majority of the pool of gear you see at the top will be used for back up to our own gear if something fails,

they expect such high fail rates?

kind of underwhelmed after you see all those white lenses in the other picture. there's no doubt canon clearly dominates sports and photojournalism markets.

im wondering why all those pics are cropped? to hide the towering white lenses of the nikons in the back? there is no comparison. canon is dominating those markets and it makes me sad. where I live, canon vs nikon is around 70% canon to 30% nikon.

and not only that but when looking in photo forums , specifically used equipment for sale (looking for another SB700) many are moving to canon, and I have not seen 1 go our way. not one. im sure there are but I havent yet. and I clearly pay attention to it. even in their ads they will say "truly sad to sell but moving to canon" and I havent seen one person mention it the opposite way. in terms of DSLR videography, 95% of the market her are canon and I only know 1 videographer (wh started with stills) who works with nikon. all are using 60D 70D 7D and 5d mark II and III for weddings. a few Ive seen use C100. some are still using should style vids but its trending completely towards DSLR.

Honestly I do not care about what others are using or the likes, all I care about is what I am happy using and what I feel more comfortable using. I am not going to get bent up over other peoples decisions when they do not effect me. People do things for a reason, simple. I like Nikon and love using it. If others do not like it then thats their loss :).

PS we have had one guy join here who sold 'all his canon gear' for a D800E, 24-70 & 70-200 f/2.8 so it does happen but maybe Nikon users are more modest lol

you do care since youre posting pictures showing that nikon does have a market in the sports PJ division. everyone cares. and you should care. what you use has nothing to do with who has more market. as of now my issue with nikon is their clear lack of CS QC and defective products. their firmware that bypasses 3rd party products, their overpricing of products and their lack of products with wireless flash, which im sure is being dealt with at nikon. how would you feel if nikon were to have another bear quarter like the last quarterly revenue? how would you feel if they lost a ton of market share? how would you feel if they were in deep financial trouble? its everybodies business that Nikon does well in all markets. the, I dont care statement is sticking your head in the sand to ignore whats really happneing. everyone cares. I do and so do you.
why watch news then? everyone cares about whats going on around them in the world, because it affects them in the end somehow or another. when the market crashed in 2007/2008, people in other countries said, ah, who cares, im happy at my job. look at the world now. what happened in the US affected everyone in the world.

something on a different subject, can your D800 adjust aperture when in live view mode? you know the D600 cant use G lenses in LV mode. but you can use it the aperture ring by configuring the menu.

I do not know, I rarely use LV mode.

we all care about nikon. we expect more from them. at this time, they have a lot of problems. we need to care when they arent doing well. if youre a true nikon fan, you must care how they are doing in the world.

another example, intel is dominating the pc market. when amd goes does down its not going to good. prices will be sky high for cpu and nvidia GPU. and since im buying components to upgrade my PC now, I opted to go with the AMD 8350. not the fastest chip but with adobe software and multi core processing, it rapes intels costlier chips. I want to do my part to support AMD....................................................but I went with the nvidia GTX 660.

Im trying to learn videography as well. thats why I ask.
