Why most of the press shoot with Canon and not with Nikon ?

Not so much giving it away as being there with something to loan for as long as you need it. There have been several times when my brother has had a lens fail and had his "Canon guy" grab one from the trunk and hand deliver it to the sidelines in a matter of minutes.

Part of being a pro is being prepared and having a backup, and when his zoom went he was headed back to his car to get a replacement (you don't carry a 300mm f/2.8 around with you on the sidelines when you've got a 120-300mm f/2.8 already on the camera) when he saw his guy and told him what was up. Best part was that it was his Sigma that had failed and the Canon guy brought him a 300mm so he wouldn't miss a quarter of the Jets game. From all I hear it's a matter that Canon seems to have more boots on the ground to support their users, and just check in with them, than Nikon does.

The University of Utah's gymnastics program is extremely popular here & consistently sets national attendance records with around 14,000 spectators per meet. Because of that, there are about 8 "pros" that I've seen who are always shooting away. With these 8, it is an even 50-50 split between N & C. I put quotes around pros because I'm really not so sure I'd classify all of them as pros even though their incomes are purely from photography & they have multiple bodies w/lenses draped over their shoulders. One of the people who shoots for the newspaper uses a crop body for everything, and the pictures that get published in the newspaper are simply horrid. This holds true for the majority of events I attend, as I see the same people shooting on the sidelines, be it a cultural event, sporting event, parade or whatever. Having seen the resulting published work in the newspaper & online from half of them, I can honestly say I am not envious one bit. I have yet to run across a pro shooting mirrorless, but I've been told they are out there as well.

I love me my Nikons, make no mistake... That being said, neither would I mind seeing 61 AF points (40 or so cross type!) in my viewfinder. Nor would I mind cranking out the occasional 12-frame burst in two seconds (shooting RAW) like the top-end Canon's will. Lastly, while I can't back this up with incontrovertible proof, I have it on good authority the Canon AF system is, generally speaking, significantly faster than Nikon's. I'll eat my words on that last part, though if someone shows me up.

That is what I've read/heard, but aside from the AF system and slightly better video on lesser models, that's all Canon really has going for it. Maybe it is better for very quick, sporty things, but overall, I feel it isn't.
