I am in Dayton. Just one question.....why would you want to visit Dayton?! I am sad to say but this city has slid down hill fast since 2007.

I went there several times between 2003 and 2007, traveling for my job. I was introduced to the Dorothy Lane Market my first trip, and will make the trip from Cincy whenever I visit my brother. There was a really good bookstore called Books & Co.; is it still there?

Books & Co. is still at the Greene. And I love DLM. An awesome place to shop. The one in Oakwood is open 24hrs. I usually shop there even though the other DLM is closer.

Isn't that where the the Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB is? My father went there years ago and said the museum was really interesting.

Yes, The US Air Force Museum is at Wright-Patterson AFB in , or just outside, Dayton. I was able to spend about an hour there during one of my TDYs years ago. Dayton also has the Wright Brothers Museum, but I've not been there.

Nice bird shots. It will be several months before we see bluebirds here. :)

Thank you, Barb. We have them year-round, here. They were really a sight the other day in the midst of our cold-spell. They were so puffed up, they looked like they were about twice as big as they usually do. They always make me want to sing "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah"!

The Wright Brothers Museum and the AFB Museum are pretty awesome. Same for the Air Show...which may be on the block unfortunately. We do have quite a few attractions. But as for the city of Dayton itself, it has seen a pretty big decline. We lost a ton of jobs during the Recession. And we still haven't really recovered.

That's too bad, but I kinda know what you mean. When I visited several years ago, I was both impressed and depressed by what I saw in Dayton. If I remember correctly, there were a few really nice art museums and exhibits in Dayton, as well. There were also some really run-down/blighted areas, as well.

Bay beach still life 1, of a feather and debris washed up upon the shore.

and a shot of two, fishing in the fog, with the bridge obscured by more fog. Moments later, the bridge completely disappeared, followed soon after by the boat and crew.

Like the first shot, would love to live close to the beach.

It can be nice, but I hate to say that it gets taken for granted most of the time. With work, the yard, and community service projects taking up so much time, I rarely even get to think about it. While the "beach" we visit wearing swimsuits is about a 20 mile ride, there are others nearer that are good when I want to quickly explore photo opportunities.

One of my projects for the spring is to attempt to get to the beach more often with a kite, which for me can be absolutely, totally relaxing. I also enjoy letting small children, with their parents supervising, fly some of the more stable kites. I've done a kite-flying project for special needs children years ago, and I'd like to see if we might be able to do something like that in this area. You can't beat the wonderful feeling you get when one of the children gets that elated look when they are flying a kite. So simple, yet so wonderful. Maybe, I'll make a photo project out of it, as well.

I know the feeling, we live 6 miles from the beach. When we moved here 36 years ago, we were at the beach all the time. Now, we may pass it once in a while. We have been trying to go more often, but there's no way I'm bringing my camera if we're going swimming. No place to keep it locked on the bicycle.

At the end of another dreary, overcast day, another male Downy Woodpecker, this time with the manual focus 300 mm, f4.5. At 1/60 sec, this guy was just too busy except on this one shot, and I missed the focus by a bit. But with the day winding down, this has to be it. On a good note, the 300 doesn't need to be cropped much at all compared to the 200.

I was about to talk myself into a compromise and get the Nikkor 300 mm f4, but after the reminder of working with an f4- lens, I'll wait until I've saved enough for a 300 f2.8.
