LOL, when I win that lottery I willThought you had bought a 750 for the other hand![]()
The price is VERY tempting. I did try the Nikon, Sigma and Tamron all at a camera show earlier this year and as the lighting was uneven througout the buidling, it wasnt a very good "test" so I will keep my eyes on your photos to see what it is capable ofI haven't really had much time to go and put it through it's paces in a "real" shooting environment. I've just done some technical tests around the house for sharpness, focus accuracy, etc. From the tests that I've done so far, it would be hard for me to recommend the Nikon lens over the Tamron lens given the huge difference in cost and nearly identical (if not better by DxO's tests) performance. The only place the Nikon would probably really win would be in build quality. Don't take that as me saying I think the Tamron is not well built, it feels amazing and VERY well built but I'm sure the Nikon is still the winner of that category.
With gray market copies of the Tamron selling for $849 here in the USA, it was an easy decision for me.
I'll jump in here since I recently got the Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 myself and it's been my daily carry for a few weeks now instead of my Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 (aka "Laurel and Hardy"). DxO Mark rates this lens as the best 24-70mm on the market (right now) for the D750 so I think you could expect even better performance on your D800. In short, I'm very happy with my (grey market) copy. It's a big, beefy lens and I wish it took 77mm filters but that's my biggest complaint. Image quality is excellent (better wide than long but strong across the focal length), the OS/VR/VC (whatever Tamron calls it), is really, really good. Shockingly good. I've been shooting this lens a lot so sample shots can be found in my 365 thread if you're interested. If you have specific questions just let me know.Looking to get a 24-70 soon, I still havent made my mind up which one... can you share your thoughts about the Tamron please![]()

I'm curious how the recently announced Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 VRII will stack up against it but with a MSRP of $2,400 my interest is pretty limited.
