What grip did you get for your D800?

I will buy a original one, with there is for the D7000 one. I like using Tripod a lot, so it is important that the gear is good. In the past I bought too much cheap one to safe money, but actually it turned out more expensive. So will I do now for lenses too.

cheap for lenses? you can buy cheap excellent lenses as well. all AI/AIS/D primes. cheap but excellent glass.

I think your tripod might be more of an issue than the grip. ive used my 3rd party grip on a tripod and had no issue at all.

I ended up buying an Xit grip for my D800 and it came with two batteries, all for about 60 dollars via ebay.

How could I possibly go wrong with that deal?

Well, actually you might be surprised at the quality of it. I have been pleasantly surprised. Fit and finish are excellent. It works properly, no issues of any kind so far.

It's hard to justify the 616 dollar cost of the genuine Nikon product when I can get a perfectly good equivalent product that works fine for 10 percent of that.

I'm all for buying the real deal, but when you pay 10X as much to get the Nikon name, you have to at least give the cheaper one a TRY first. I'd have to bust up TEN of these suckers to spend as much as I would to get the Nikon grip, and my suspicion is that I'll never bust 10 of them.

Nikon grips are pricey for sure, I really do not understand the price gap between say the D7200 and D800 grips, is the technology THAT much different?

I bought the XIT grip for my D7100 last winter. Worked fine ( I refused to hang it from my Black Rapid for obvious reasons). Shortly after my lenses began having focusing issues. I removed the grip and things returned to normal. I finally bought the Nikon MB-D15 and it's worked flawlessly since last Spring.

I suggest shopping for a clean, used D800 grip.

The grip cost to replace is less of an issue than the cost of the damage to your D800 if the grip breaks while supporting the camera. Also the third party grips aren't the same build quality nor even the same abilities. For an example, I can and do use bigger D4 batteries in my grip, and from all I have heard no third party grip can do that.

But I seriously hope your new grip will problem free and won't cause any damage to your camera.:)

I don't support my camera from the tripod mount built into the grip. It's not a concern.

I would not trust the in-grip tripod mount for any but the lightest duty usage.

Any time I'm shooting from a tripod, I'm using the tripod mount that is attached to the lens itself, as I only shot from the tripod when I'm using larger, heavier lenses.
