There are cheaper DIY tools that will do the job, but this thing makes it SO much easier.

That was my thought Jake.... I put it on my Xmas list and if I got it, well cool and I would have it... If not, well as said, there are other ways.
It does make it easy... overall I was pleased

Hopefully you get a lens that needs tuning!
If not, thats ok... It is nice knowing all is tuned and if I have issues, it is the knucklhead behind the viewer...

I really hadn't planned on getting anything photography related for Christmas...but that changed because of how things unfolded. Earlier in the year I bought a D600, but due to its problems, Nikon reimbursed me for the camera. I had hoped Nikon would offer another lens sale for the holidays, but they didn't.
When Nikon reimbursed me for the D600, I decided to take advantage of their camera/lens combo sale prices. I have an older Sigma 70-210mm f/3.5-4.5 macro, but its macro capabilities isn't nearly as good as a true macro lens. So...I opted to get the Nikon 105mm f/2.8 micro for a savings coupled with a D610.
And I've been lusting for a Nikon 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G lens because of [MENTION=4399]Rick M[/MENTION]'s thread showcasing those photos. Since that lens was also eligible for a camera/lens combo discount, I was able to get it at a savings.
I haven't yet tried out the 18-35mm because I've been having fun with the 105mm. I've seen some awesome macro shots here on the forum and have developed an interest in macro (well...I'm not fond of bugs, but many of the other subjects are gorgeous)! This lens is truly amazing compared to my older Sigma lens I mentioned earlier. Actually there is no comparison! I am blown away by what this lens can do.
I truly consider myself to be fortunate with how everything unfolded--from all the servicing the D600 needed to getting a refund and being able to get a savings on these lenses. This has been the most difficult year of my life ever, and it is as if I am finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I will be spending a lot of time analyzing the photos uploaded by those of you who own these lenses so I can really learn the ins-and-outs of the best ways to get the most out of them. Please keep those 105mm and 18-35mm shots coming!
