I couldn't wait with crossed fingers any longer, just treated myself to an Alta Pro 263AT with GH-100 ball head :)

thanks me!! Funny thing was - it was on wex as a set for £159 out of stock, but they had both individually in stock at a total of £158.98!!

.02 savings and no wait, WIN!

I bought my self the Photoflex pro duty backdrop support kit. I can't rely on my wife to get me anything photography related because I'm just to picky about what I want. Love her to death but it's y thing. Other than that she got me the usual pants, gloves, hat, candy, work boots.

Posted in the purchases section already, but...

Wife and mom both gave me the gift of "fundage", so I'll be using that to purchase the SB-700 and, potentially, the Yongnuo RF-603 wireless transceiver kit. Then hoping to scratch and save every penny until I can nab a D7000 or D7100...

Such a slow process, but at least there's always something to look FORWARD to, right? :)

I will be interested in how those Yongnuo transievers work for you! Congrats on the SB-700!

Spent my cash on Yongnuo 622 wireless flash transmitter receivers and another 568 flash, steep learning curve coming up!

I'll be interested in your thoughts on this Pat, keep us posted!

Will do Rick... I know there are "cheaper ways" but I had to put some normal people items on my wish list!! :) I have seen some decent reviews and also positive on fine tuning with primes.... I hope to try it out saturday with my 35, 50 and 105

my wife bought me this also, took it around the lake today, (should have brought my 18-105) seems very sturdy except for the quick release plate, it was a little bit shaky, tried both plates still the same, i take it this is not normal?

Ok, I tried it out today.... does it work, yes!!! How were my lens's.... well lets look...

Basic setup, both on tripod

DSC_9439.jpg

Original tests were too far back and there was not enough variance... so I closed
the distance to exaggerate the lack of DOF

First up was my 35 mm f1.8

1st shot is a very slightly front focused... not sure how much adjust to affect a change I went back 4.
2nd shot shows that is way too much...

DSC_6366.jpg DSC_6371.jpg

I went to back 2, then back 1 (picture) and it was still too much... so I ended up leaving it un-touched.

DSC_6367.jpg

The I went to the 50mm f1.8...........

Pretty much the same... real close, very slight front, went back 2, then only back 1...
and ended up leaving it alone....

Untouched and the back 1

DSC_6371.jpg DSC_6372.jpg

Last up, I did my Sigma 105 Macro... This one was dead on!!!!

DSC_6374.jpg

End result, I left all 3 len's alone... It was nice to know that they are fine and if I have any issues, it is likely the
knucklehead behind the viewfinder...

Important to have good lineup... I used 2 tripods, bubble levels and set the vertical lineup with the 300 zoom to dial in close.
They indicate to use an approx shooting distance as you would in life... I did NOT see enough variation there even at f1.8 so I ended up
running my tests closer .... which magnifies any variation...

At a later date I will look at my 3 zoom lens's......

Have a great day all....

I got a celestron telescope with all the things I need to set it up to my camera but so far I have it together but life has made it impossible to much more than set it up. Looking forward to new learning and discoveries in the sky :)

SB700, Tripod mount for the 70-200 f4 (knock-off) and a Tamrac Pro 12 bag :)

How do you like the Tamrac Pro 12 bag? I bought mine over a year ago basically to store gear I am currently not using. Before I bought it, I called Tamrac and asked what the difference was between it and their 612 Pro System 12 bag and was told the specs were practically identical (although the outside closure flap is different), and the material wasn't exactly the same--the material in the Pro 12 bag was supposed to be as durable as the 612 Pro System 12 but was made overseas. The Tamrac Pro 12 was also assembled overseas while the 612 Pro System 12 was supposed to be assembled here and the material made here, too.

I've used Tamrac bags for years and really like them although they don't seem to be as popular here on the forum as Lowepro bags. When it's filled, it is one HEAVY bag! ;) It sure does hold A LOT!

I really like it, because it is similar to bags I used in the film days (except much bigger). I tried all sorts of backpacks and have not liked any of them. This will be good for on-site jobs and traveling (in my travel trailer).
