What am I doing right and wrong?

Maxie...think of aperture this way: you walk into a dark room. Your eye (iris) opens up as wide as it can to get any available light. The reverse is true; walk into a brightly lit room. Your eye will get small, trying to minimize the light entering your eye. Yet you can still see. Visualize what I just said, and it will become clearer to you. :)

OK, but is what he is getting at is that he doesn't really care as much about the dilation and more focused on the other settings? Trying to understand the flavor of what he was saying. Although, I think I might have just answered my own question, but your feedback would be nice to back it up.
