wev, what is your opinion of the Square Trade warranty? I just purchased a Godox flash with a trigger and have 26 more days to add a Square Trade warranty. From what I've heard, if there are any issues with the flash, I'd have to send it to China (if I don't get a Square Trade warranty). :rolleyes: Do you know if Square Trade repairs things themselves? I am surprised to hear your D500 went back to Nikon. Here I was under the impression these aftermarket warranty companies used no-name repair centers.

Anything ST covers first gets sent to them for assessment. They do minor stuff, but if anything major is needed, they sent to the manufacturer's authorized shop for repair. This is where it can get frustrating. While ST guarantees a two day solution, it does not extend to outside repair, so you are at the mercy of Nikon, say, who took three months to fix my body the first time and several weeks on each of its other trips in. ST did mollify me with a $50 B&H gift card each time, so they recognize the issue. All things considered, the coverage was worth every cent -- I am getting a new body after 2 years and 275,000+ clicks.

If you go for it, make sure to get the pro plan with free shipping and 100% "whatever happens" coverage.

Thanks for the info! :encouragement: I looked at my options but a pro plan isn't being offered. I even clicked the link to learn more. Then I added the D500 to my cart to see what you were talking about, and I see they offer both a regular plan as well as a pro plan for that body. I will definitely keep ST in mind moving forward so I appreciate knowing, wev. And I'll probably go with the 3-year protection plan especially since Godox doesn't have a US warranty center. ;)
