Today while photographing Pelicans, I was walking along a pond shoreline, and stepped on what looked like a somewhat dried patch of mud. All of a sudden I was waist deep in sticky, heavy mud. (Don't worry, I saved the camera and lens.
) I could NOT get myself out. Like quicksand, every move I made only seemed to get me more stuck.
After several minutes of fighting to get out I had made only a small amount of progress and was getting really worn out. Lucky for me another photographer was nearby and by pulling with each of us holding on to the loops of my backpack, he freed me up enough that I was able to get my hands and arms out on more solid ground and sort of crawl my way out.
The mud took one of my boots off and so I had to walk back to my car with only one boot and a thick cover of mud on my pants and remaining boot. LOL. My legs and one knee are really sore from the battle. A photography morning I am not likely to forget!
